I'm running the same size Nitto Terra Grappler tires as GXKat. No you don't need to do anything to your speedo.

Online speed / tire conversion says it'll be off by 1-2MPH, so if your speedo shows 55MPH you're really going 56-57MPH. I compared my speedo to speed traps and an app on my iPhone and I didn't see much of a difference at all.

The size difference only caused a 3% difference in speedo. So when it says 60mph, it's really 61.8mph. Not big enough deal to even worry about IMHO.
I used the rimsntires.com tire size comparer calculator for the specs.
http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

The place I bought the rims on ebay supplied the center cap with the Lexus logo, I was surprised, but very happy with them.

I've since sold the GX and moved onto a big honkin' Toyota Tundra 5.7L CrewMax.....does everything we need it to do! Tow, haul stuff, carries my electric scooter.

Nice truck ... BIG!

GXKat -
1. Do you remember which vendor you purchased your 4Runner wheels? Price?
2. Did you ever buy the spoiler - if so, which vendor and were you satisfied with quality?

TIA

I would seriously recommend going OEM. Buy the parts from Sewell Lexus online, use your CL discount and if you're a bit adventurous install it yourself.

The OEM spoiler has been engineered well, engineered to fit right, last, and also has the side benefit of keeping the rear window nice and clean+clear in the rain.

Did this myself a few weeks ago:

1) Bought the rims from this company and paid $955, free shipping.
They were OEM rims, not aftermarket. Factory finish.

I asked about the Lexus center cap and they said it was no problem.

2) Yes, I bought the spoiler. Bought it pre-painted from "spoilercentral" on ebay, not OEM.
The spoiler was a perfect fit in every way, looked exactly like OEM and the paint matched 100%. I was more worried that the paint wouldn't match, especially because of the pearl. I know the mica has to be just right. It was perfect, and I mean perfect, in every way.

Had my shop install it, and I recall them saying they didn't have to drill a hole in the rear gate like the instructions said. I can't recall the details but I know I as especially happy they didn't have to drill a hole in it!

Click on the image and it takes you to the ebay listing.

I ordinarily agree with you, but the price was so significantly less than OEM I decided to try it. I read several CL owners bought from the same company (and the same color) and were extremely pleased. I decided this non-OEM price was low enough to trash it if not acceptable.

I don't understand your last statement, the non-OEM has the same "side benefit" and keeps the rear window cleaner due to the difference in air flow pattern. I don't believe the OEM vs non-OEM has any effect on that as it fit the same.

You're arguing that the ebay unit is an exact replica of the Toyota part? Same shape, same attachment mechanism, same quality of harness, etc?

Or, does it look about the same?

I'm not really arguing my point, I'm just stating what my experience was. I can't say "exact" because I can't verify that for any of those parameters, but it was totally satisfactory for me.

I ask the seller several pertinent questions before buying. Here's one response to my question about hardware:
Our hardware is stainless, however we do not have brass inserts. Our inserts are injection molded plastic which are a formed part of the spoiler. We do not sell spoilers with brass inserts as we have found the brass inserts have a tendancy to "spin out" or loosen over time, which causes a loose spoiler that cannot be tightened and will continually rattle.
On the other hand, when I replaced some CV boots (both inner and outer) on my Isuzu Vehicross, I went with OEM ONLY at $125 EACH, so $125 x4. Some fellow owners thought I was nuts, when the Dorman or CarQuest brand were less than $50 each. My trusted mechanic also told me those brands would NEVER EVER last the 13 years the OEM Isuzus did. (And the outers weren't even split, I just decided to have all 4 done at the same time). And it was me, not my mechanic, that suggested and purchased the OEMs, so mechanic had no vested interest in brand.

DId the same with the OEM brake pads. First set lasted 80,000 miles up front, and had some more life left. I'm sticking with them.

For $125 + $25 shipping, I decided to take the risk on an non-safety related, cosmetic part.

To each his own, nothing negative intended.

Thanks. Just curious.

Are there high res pics anywhere of the ebay spoiler installed?

Some of the ebay postings provide a clue here, saying that they aren't replacements for the OE part because the mounting holes/locations/methods are different.

At the end of the day, I was more indexed on my worry about drilling holes in the truck, and trusted the OEM method & preparation instructions given it was a part that Lexus warrantied for the full warranty of the truck. That means a lot to me personally, and outweighed $$ saved on the part itself. I probably spent close to as much on the various drillbits, rivet gun, 3m body treatment, etc, as I did on the part. At the end of the day, OEM quality for far less than the dealer would have charged to source & install, and I'm sure they wouldn't have been as careful.

Even something regarding how to deal with metal shavings is treated with detail in the Lexus directions. Errant metal shavings can cause serious headache downstream if you aren't careful.

Cheers. Sounds like good options are available.

Default TheSpoilerStore

I bought mine last week from the Spoiler Store...$114 unpainted, add $75.00 to paint. I am having it put on today; I didn't get the brake light because I want to buy the red light strip to go on the back of the vehicle.

I did this about 6 years ago...I got it from the spoiler store and just noticed yesterday that the clear coat has flaked off on top really bad. I'm going to buy another one from them and see if they would give me anything back.

Here's my thread from way back then.
