Clear Bra Install
Has anybody installed Clear Bra on their GX? the 3M film that goes over the bumper and hood to protect it from rock chips? How do you like it?

Not Clear Bra, but another brand. I did the leading edge of the hood, mirrors and bumper. Half of my car wash / detail guys said don't do it; the other half said go for it. For the money you spend on the clear bra, you could repaint in the future. Also, some clear bras go bad and have to be re-applied per their experience. I went with those that said why not protect it and hope to not have to repaint or replace the film. It largely disappears on my silver GX and think it'd do the same on yours, too.
P.S. No xenons, yet. I'm a wuss.

Yea it seems reallly nice and being I work for BMW, and we give our clear bra guy tons of work, he will do my GX for the cost of the material only! He hooked me up woth free tint on the front as well----- So good deal I guess and he says the stuff will not yellow over time----it beats rock chips I guess which I already have a few of those

I have one that was installed on mine when new, Xpel I believe was the brand. On a white car you can see the edge as dirt/wax buildup form and get stuck there. Over time it has changed color a little and you can see it when you are close to the vehicle, but from a distance you cannot tell. It has saved the paint many times but when you get a bad hit it does mess up the film. When it gets bad enough you just replace the film. On my wife's car which is black you hardly can see it except for the hits it has protected the car from. You see the film messed up where the rock hit but no damage to the paint. For a black car it looks much better with it as the rock chips would be worse. I would go for it.

I have the 3M clear bra installed on my GX - bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors. Had it on my BMW M Coupe for 4 yrs without any issues. After 3 yrs and countless car washes etc it looks almost as good today as it did when I had it installed. It is easy enough to replace so I figure if it starts to go after the 5 yr warranty runs out I can replace it as necessary.

Nice--I may go ahead and get it done then before my front end takes a beating, it already has a couple chips that I need to fix up before it gets put on

I have the 3M brand on my 04 GX and my 02 RX - no trouble at all with the film (like yellowing or lifting) and zero chips in the paint. It works as advertised.
I also have the film on the headlight lenses - those are terribly expensive to replace if a rock takes one out - and still crystal clear, even on the RX in its 8th year.

I actually ordered mine from Lexus in december 04 as part of my special order. I always thought it was interesting that I never saw the clear bar on GXs on the lots... Especially since it was only a $385 option (called paint protection film).... Haven't had a problem with ours... Saved many rock chips..... Interestingly... on the lower passenger side, there is a very small Lexus emblem stamped into the clear bra
