GX470 Oil filter removal
Any easy way to remove the oil filter? Looking at it, it seems that you have to remove the skid plate to access the filter. Any help is appreciated.

the front skid plate has to be unbolted and it'll swing down to reach the filter. The entire skid plate can be removed so that you won't smack your head against it while under the car (that's what I did)

There are a couple of people on this forum who claim they change the oil filter from under the hood by reaching down and unscrewing the oil filter. I not very muscular and I certainly can't fit my hand and arm down there to even touch the oil filter. With all the components in the way, heck I can barely see the filter from above.

On my GX the skid plate hits the ground when it swings down, and there is not enough room to get it off the hinges at the front. So put the car on ramps and remove the skid plate, and make sure you can get to the oil filter before draining the oil from the engine. Otherwise you are left with no oil in the engine, no way to get to the filter, and can no longer start the car to put it on the ramps.
So then you try reaching the filter from the top, which can be done after you take the trim panel in the engine compartment (drivers side). In my case I could get my hand on the filter, foound it too tight to loosen, and no reasonable way to get the oil filter wrench on from the top.
Ask me how I know this.....
