Of course we all read the Towing capacity of the 2004 and newer GX is 6500 Pounds. I also see the factory hitch behind the cover on the back bumper and also see a much larger hitch below this with a large frame on quite a few GX's. Does anybody know if the Towing capacity of the built in Towing Receptor is the full 6500 Lbs or do you need to add the larger looking one that mounts below that. Also are they both factory Toyota Hitch systems ?Thanks for your help in clarifying this. I plan on looking at some travel trailers early next year and want to make sure that I have the proper towing gear.

The hitch that is integrated into the rear bumper (requiring a notched bumper insert) is rated to 5000 lbs and was discontinued by Lexus midway through the 2004 model year. The tubular-design hitch that sits below the non-notched bumper insert has been installed on all model years since mid-2004 and is rated to 6500 lbs. Both of these hitches are likely Toyota parts as well (I am certain the smaller hitch is a Toyota part but not 100% sure on the larger hitch).
