It's amazing what the power of suggestion will do, or maybe it's my own stupidity.

I'm speaking about those dual color LEDs. Of course, they are dual color, because they have dual contacts. The bulbs for the DRLs and the Turn Signals on the GX are single contact. We all know that !! So how in the heck did I expect to get dual individual colors with a single contact ??

Besides the suggestion to use the bulbs, AutoLumination was aware that my two orders stipulated that the bulbs were to be used on a GX 470.

I don't understand, isn't our stock GX front turn signal a 4157 dual filament design? Dual contacts as shown on this spec sheet:

That is very odd, Sylvania's lamp replacement guide shows the front turn signal bulbs as 4157 type and nothing in the whole list suggests a single filament 3156 single filament bulb.

You got me curious, I'll have to remove one of the front turn signal bulbs from my GX to see!

Default Been law in Canada since 1992

DRL's have been mandated a stock feature and are in every vehicle sold in Canada since 1992. When you import a US Vehicle that doesn't have DRL's you even have to convert the vehicle to DRL's. You can't register without doing the modification. My old 92 SC400 was my first experience with this. It was great when I bought the 2006 GX470 and the DRL's were already there ! I really think it is safer. I guess we can all thank our Swedish friends at Volvo, I believe that they were one of the first manufacturers to come up with DRL's many years ago !

Cheers

Hi LoneWolf....

I have ordered Super White LEDs for the GX. It may not be legal, but I doubt I will ever be stopped for it. The white for the DRLs will be OK, its the white for the Turn Signals that may be questioned.

I know in MA, its very hard to pass state inspection if you have white or blue turn signal lights.

The only inspection we have in CA is for Smog. But I'm sure you would be stopped for Blue DRLs and Turn Signals.

I'm sure I won't, as I am using LEDs now. The reason is probably because I am using Prado tail-lights, configured to use two bulbs as turn-signals, resulting in more resistance.

Hi Cap,

Thanks for the updates, too bad about the DUAL colored LEDs not working out for the GX... It really would have been nice to have WHITE for DRL and AMBER for signal...

Can you please let me know the "instructions/guide" you have for changing out the bulbs? To me everything is "sealed" behind wheel wells and body panels and I'm not good with opening BODY panels "neatly" without winding up destroying/damaging them...

Thanks!

Alex,

The front turn signal bulbs are accessible from under the front bumper. Just lay down under below the fog lamp area and you can see the bottom of the headlight housing. The turn signal bulb are held on by a gray colored socket.
