I just completed the GX oil change the first time of my new ownership, this post is very helpful but I would highly recommend removing the rear skid plate, it is only 4 bolts..
The reason is when I dropped the plug the oil hit my hand and splattered and then it came leaking out of the skid plate in random places. (there is not a lot of room for hand, bucket and tool). I do not want to have oil drip out after I am done. I took out the rear skid plate off and here is a picture, doesn't look like I was the only person who had been spilling on it. I had to clean this and the cross member of the mess. It may be just me but seems like the oil comes out really fiercely and get all over the place.
I bought the filter socket from amazon and it works super easy with a ratchet
Also, overtime the mechanics that worked on the car used impact because they were way over tightened for a M8x1.25 bolt, one of them was cross threaded and needed to be chased with a repair tap. OK for now but need to be helicoiled in the future, I always hear about these bolts being stripped.
I am missing the cover for the access hole, I have heard people complain the dealer never put it back.

Agree 110%. These jokers want to churn and burn cars through their shop as fast as possible. Most of them at just kids that don't know doo doo. I've got a built up XJ that I took to a jiffy lube just once. I've replaced the whole drive train*. These jokers told me they could not find the correct oil filter (it was a big deal for them for some reason), then they tell me they topped off the fluids on my tcase, diffs, windshield washer etc.
So I quiz then on how they checked the oil levels on my crawler box and altas, and to show me. Obviously, they had not idea. I bet they never saw a crawler box before.
Stay away from these nuts unless you watch them like a hawk.

Makes oil change a snap, attach hose to valve and drain wherever you want. That plastic cover...pretty delicate, plastic hooks break off pretty easily

This really make life easier when changing oil,

When you are desperate and you have a oil filter that was on to tight, or just doesn't want to come off, or you don't have a fancy oil filter clamp/wrench then result to the old racer/mechanic knowledge.
Get you a hammer and a screw driver and a trash bag. You can hammer the screw driver into the oil filter near the top of the filter (not the part by the engine block) and use that screw driver to get you leverage on the filter to "unscrew it" or at least loosen it until you can do it by hand. Your going to dispose of that filter anyway. Just my two cents. -
