No, that snap- on filter you pictured will work. Those bastards I bought my rig from put a cheap carquest filter on there and tightened it as tight as I have ever seen. I used that tool to bust it a loose

Reset the light by following the procedure below:
1. Turn the ignition key to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position with
the odometer reading shown. (For details, see “Odometer and
trip meter” on page 61.)

2. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position while holding down
the trip meter reset ****.
Hold down the **** until the light goes off. Before the light
goes off, it illuminates for 3 seconds, flashes for 2 seconds and
illuminates for 1 second.

** If the system fails to reset, the light will remain flashing. In this
case, return to step 1 and try again.

Is this for non-nav trucks or something? My maintenance reminder stuff is all in the nav system, no dash lights.

Yes it is. For nav owners, it's as simple as punching in the dates/mileage in the oil change service category.

I've always reset the light with the steps I posted from the owners manual. All I do in the navigation system is set what mileage I want the maintenance light to come on. Even if you have the navigation system you will still get the maintenance light on your gauge cluster though.....

Hmmm, the only maintenance/service lights I've ever seen on ours is on the nav screen, never anything on the gauge cluster.

Maybe that started '05+, I'm not really sure?

I know 100% the maintenance light "MAINT REQD" lights up in the gauge cluster though because it'll flash when it's getting close to change the oil and stay light when it's at and or over the mileage I set in the Navi menu.

EDIT: I just stumbled upon MichaelD86's thread asking what does the light mean:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...eqd-light.html

He has an '04 w/ Navi so maybe your light is burned out in your gauge cluster....

Also noticed there's 3 bumped maintenance light threads on page 1?

Hey guys, been changing the oil and filter for a while now without taking the skid plate off, using an oil filter wrench like the one in post #1. Its a bit of a pain, but, doable. A cap filter wrench with a long 3/8" extension would make it a snap. So I ordered one from Amazon(74 mm and 14 flutes) ,but, its the wrong size for the filter which is Toyota #90915YZZD3.

Does anyone know correct cap filter wrench for Toyota #90915YZZD3?

Its 14 flutes but I need the mm size. Thanks in advance.

Where does the oil drain to if you don't drop that front plate down? I have always been able to loosen filter with just hands and rubber gloves, never over tighten filter.

I stuff a rag under the filter.I loosen the filter and take it out from the top of the truck hardly spilling any.If I do,I spray the plate with brake kleen.

I changed the oil in my GX for the first time this weekend. The write up from shodog was very helpful for first time changes. Removing the skid plate was easy. Whoever did oil changes on my gx before I bought it never re-installed the drain plug removable panel. My oil filter was screwed on so hard from the dealer that it broke my oil filter tool and started to crush the filter itself. Just a tip if anyone runs into this issue, remove one of the screws on the funnel plate and just rotate that out of the way. Once you do that, you will have A LOT more room to work with unscrewing the filter.

Does the skid plate has to be removed completely like this one to change the oil filter?
