My new 2006 GX front cupholder lid magnetic closure has stopped working. It was fine for several months until yesterday when I noticed when I push it down to lock into place closed, it comes back open. It will not lock down. Has anyone had this trouble before either here or in their front storage compartment which has the same magnetic locking mechanism I suppose?

I have!! And my phone was in there, i just pryed it open. next service i'll get them to look at it, but the nearest dealership is 30-45 minutes away. It gets tuck open and closed. i also have an '06

Would you let me know when you get yours fixed? My appointment is a month from now because I am a hour and fifteen minutes away from my dealer. I will do the same for you.

Be prepared to make two trips. They won't fix the problem. They will replace the console. Odds are, that they have to order it.

Was not aware that it closed via a magnet. I though it was just a latch...

I think its some kind of 2 way locking latch system too. The latch probably got strip or stuck somehow.

It's actually not a magnet but the latch with slow moving gears, like the ashtrays and other slow moving parts.

I had it stuck in a closed position once. I pushed it down a little further and it opened back again, never had a problem since.

I had a problem with the storage compartment door a couple years ago, and they relaced the whole door.
