Clunk Fix with new TSB
#601
ok. i took mine in with 117k miles to see if Lexus corp can do any good will. well they're going to cover 25% of it. so i have to come up with $419.xx for it.
how much do these parts and labor usually run? I thought i read it was very pricey.
i still think it should be covered 100% since it's been a know issue since the 2003 model.

I paid cash for my 2004 GX, purchased it from one of the owners of American Auto Tech (an independant Lexus service center) I started to notice the 'clunk' when pulling up to traffic lights, etc.
I took the car to Lindsey Lexus in Alexandria, where Tai had originally purchased it. They were extremely nice and gave me an extended warranty, and fixed the problem, replacing the shaft, control arms, and other parts. Thank you Lindsey Lexus!! The clunk is gone and I have put several thousand miles on it with no problem!
Being new to Lexus, Lindsey and American Auto Tech have really given me an impression on quality Lexus service! I recomend them to everyone!

Clunk TSB-Is Diff fluid replaced during this fix?
I had the TSB clunk fixed this past summer, no problems since. My question is: is the rear differential fluid replaced when this service is performed? Any one out there have an answer?
Thanks

The thunk
My dealer, Lexus of Las Vegas, told me the clunk was caused by suspension linkage for the rear axle. He added that it was an expensive fix, too, at over $1K. I think it unlikely they would change the differential fluid or do anything else with the drive system.

The clunk
My dealer told me three times that it was just the driveshaft, and the problem always returned. The replacement of the suspension linkage has resulted in no further problems in nearly 30K miles.

Not sure what your dealer means by the clunk is caused by "suspension linkages." Unless Lexus changed the TSIB again, the latest version of the TSIB includes not only the driveshaft replacement with a heftier driveshaft, but also the control arms and bushings. 99% of the CL members including myself on this thread that have had the TSIB peformed have not experienced the "clunk" since and some have put more then 20k mi on their trucks.

it is now on the 4th total revision over the years of the model.
the newest which makes any earlier one obsolete is a new design driveshaft replacement only. repair covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles only.

I believe the TSIB covers up to 2007 models. I have a 2008 GX470.
Has anyone with a 2008 had this problem?
Is there a simple way to determine if the TSIB has been done?
Thanks
