MPG accuratly derived
I have now one year behind me on my GX (05)
ACTUAL mpg with mostly city driving is 13.187363 miles per gallon
Gas (premium) averaged $2.35 per gallon
Insurance costs LESS than my 99 LS by $400 with identical coverage
I still prefer to drive my 99 LS, significantly more comfort.
The GX commutes 5 and sometimes 6 days a week; speed limit for whole trip is 25 mph (wife)
The highest miles per gallon, on 250 mile business round trips (same trip every time) was 16.747; average speed probably 70 mph
I would not buy this car again: I would buy a used RX for the snow ; and a new LS430, or keep my 99 LS and buy a new LX if it would only fit in my garage( door height of garage too low by an inch)
I would not consider any other make of car; having Lexus since 1990 (LS,LS,LS,LS RX,RX, RX GX)

If you are not happy with the milage with the GX why would you even consider the LX? It is bigger, heavier and definitely less fuel effecient than the GX470. I only have about 3500 miles on my 3 months old GX but I get about 18 MPG on highway speed range from 70-75 MPH. This is an improvement for me since my last SUV was a 2001 Mercedes ML320. RX has better milage but IMHO, the GX is lot more comfortable, roomier and quieter ride. Before I bought the GX I was considering Acura MDX and Lexus RX330. But my wife and I test drove all 3 vehicles we decided on GX because in our opinion it is a better vehicle.

That is interesting that the MPG is so low. I've got 11 months on my GX and I've put every tank of gas, repair, part, etc. into my PDA for tracking. At current, I have 15.7639 cumulative MPG (premium fuel). 98% of that is city driving - only one vacation/highway trip and on that trip the MPG went into the 18+ range (it would have been better, but I suspect the very strong winds I was fighting factored into it).
Only thing I've done is put a K&N air filter on the truck, but my mileage data shows no significant change before and after the filter change.
They must have bolted yours together extra tight....

It really depends on what your daily trip is like. I drive the GX 4 to 5 trips a day in the city and all of the trips are under 5 miles. I get about 14 MPG, which is what I expected when I bought the GX. Actually not too bad for a 5000 pound truck with a V8. My last 2 SUV with the same driving arrangment got about 12.5 MPG with the 96 Grand Cherokee and 14.5 on the 03 MDX.

I never said I was unhappy; just quoting the facts. I get (with same driving habits) over 20 mpg average from my LS overall, and in the mid 20,s on trips, with a lot of driving near 80 miles an hour.
I wouldn't buy it again, because I can get as much comfort with an RX, and as I said, would buy an LX (mileage be damned) if I could get it in my garage. I don't do offroad. except when I stagger around walking (never driving) after a few Buds

I just dont see the logic here, you are complaining about the gas mileage of your GX and you want to buy a LX? If you care that much about gas mileage, why in the world would you buy a GX or for that matter, any SUV? Too bad Lexus doesn't make a station wagon, it would have much better gas mileage. Although the RX is pretty close to a station wagon.

Hi Leot,
My initial confusion is that you stated the milege on the GX was low and then your post ended up stating you wanted to go with the RX or the LX, as you wouldn't buy the GX again. Well now, we know that you like the COMFORT of the RX and possibly even more so on the LX (milege be damned)...
So overall the real reason for the switch is the Comfort factor and the milege is a little annoying but you can live with that...
IMHO I personally did not feel comfortable with the RX, too small and cramped for my tastes and the DASH was so "plastic"....
Good luck with your next purchase!
