Default mileage?

I'm getting 14 as shown on the computer. Actual miliage seems lower than this. This is a mixture of around town and hiway. Is this all this all I should expect?

Default Gas Mileage isn't one of the strong points

I'm averaging 15.6 mpg. Each time I fill up, I reset the Lexus-computed average MPG. Then I do the math. The car computer consistently reports about 2 mpg better than the actual average.

I have run the car on 87 octane without apparent ill effect. The octane seems to have no impact on the mileage I get, no matter whether I run it on 91, 89 or 87. Even in pretty hot weather, it hasn't pinged on 87 octane.

The best I've ever gotten in this car was a highway trip - on which I got just over 16 mpg. (I was consistently at about 75 mph. If I were willing to do about 60 or so, I bet I could get over 17mpg.)

One thing I've learned about this car - don't set the mode selecter to actual gas mileage. It's too depressing, even though it always shows better mileage performance that I'm actually getting.

that's not pretty bad for a new engine. you'll start getting sticker mpg once you hit 20k and above.

Default Be patient Vette

Jesus man be patient you just got the GX and now your expecting miracles. Mine is getting 16.3 mpg with mixed driving and using both AC units front and back with Las Vegas 120 degree temperature. Initially for the first 10k miles you will get 14-15 mpg let the GX break in. The GX gets great mileage for a V8 engine.

I get 17.5 mpg hand figured 19.5 on the computer, unleaded 87 octane over 10K miles on the vehicle combined city/hwy. This is on a 2004 4runner V8 AWD Sport. It weighs 2-300 lbs less then the GX470. I get 20 mpg on a hwy trip. Got about 16.5 before it hit the 10K mile mark. I use dino oil 5w30 Castrol GTX, don't know if Synthetic would help mpg???

Thanks for the info. Even with it not being broke in I would expect more but we will see. It is tempting not to mash it because the motor does sound sweet.

i think after reading your posts, you'll all feel bad for me....

most of my driving is about 50/50 city/hgwy (but hgwy is during rush hour, so it's worse than city):

in the winter i get about 11-12mpg. and 15-20mins of warmup run time at every start. i'm addicted to the remote starter in the winter, and refuse to scrape windows.....

in the fall/spring i get about 15mpg.

in the summer i get about 13-14mpg. this is with air conditioner used 80% of the time.

we did one long trip, all highway, and i think we got around 17 or 18mpg!

i have just over 25k miles.

i think, lately i'm getting 16 or 17mpg in city. 20-22 mpg in long highway driving. funny, today i was looking at my odometer and i noticed before i got into the garage, it was 32,999 then i checked back after entering, and it hit EXACTLY 33,000 miles. So I'm happy!!!

But with gas prices tooo high, I could still feel a little tickle in the wallet

From Jersey to Florida and back, I averaged 19MPG. Around town I average 14-15. (computer analyzed). I don't expect much from a V8 anyway. And oh god does that motor sound GREEEEEAAAAAT. It sounds almost as good as my corvette. So much fun. I love burning gas...YUM. (j/k)

Its a heavy SUV, gas mileage will be bad, period. I am sure a hybrid GX will come eventually, as Lexus has stated they will offer hybrids on all vehicles.

Vette, you also have a thread where you hate your GX. So I am not surprised you noticed sub-par gas mileage.

I get 17 with 25% highway 75% city.

Going to Vermont once I was able to achive 23.5 MPG, Cruise Control set to 65mph. That's an amazing feat for a 4.7 liter V8.

Talk about bad, two of my friends do mostly highway driving with an Escalade. They get 12.5-13mpg. The Escalade has, on paper, a lot of HP, but man is it sloooww. Slower than the GX, definitely. Though on paper it gets a 0-60 time of only .3 seconds slower.

Ours averages between 17.5 and 18.2 depending on how much I drive it vs. my wife. This is mixed city/highway driving but not much stop & go traffic. I have gotten as much as 23MPG on an interstate trip back from the Beach. (South Carolina)
