Avg 13.3MPG from NYC/Queens/Brooklyn Driving, is this normal?
I got average 13.3mpg gas mileage in the trip computer, is it normal?
My car is 2005, so far has 1,000 miles
My daily driving is Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, BQE, LIE
I always warm up my car (~ 5 mins) when it is cold outside
How do I improve the gas mileage?
Thanks for your insight.

I have a 2003 model. In my experience, computer shows about 2mpg more than the actual, and gas mileage goes up after a few thousand miles. In my case it gradually went up and was good after 5k miles. For first 1000 miles or so I got ~16mpg (measured) in mainly highway driving varying between 50-70mph (i avoided driving at constant speed for 1st 1500 miles). I get better mileage when driving between 50-65 mph. It seems above 70mph it starts to decline.
At present I've about 22k miles on the truck and I get ~17 mpg (measured) in mixed daily driving, which is not too congested but regular SF bay area traffic. On highways, cruising at around 70mph I get 18-19mpg. I've never observed more than 19 although compter shows upto 21.x
I do not think there is any trick to improve mileage other than driving habits. avoid hard breaking, sudden throttle and stop. I think all cars would perform better in terms of mpg at constant speeds.

Fellow NY'er
I live downtown NYC and mileage definitely improves with time. I was also averaging less than 14 for the first 2000+ miles. Now that I am over 5000 its more like 16+.
Also - I think that in NY your mileage will improve as the "winter blend" of gas goes away which contains additives (MTBE?) that cost some mileage.
Finally - BTW - I get this on regular gas.
Same situation in my 2003 GX....mileage got better after "break in"

NYC perhaps you are idling too long. It is not necessary to warm the engine up for 5 minutes every day. When the engine is cold, just take it easy and don't exceed 10-15% throttle until the engine warms up (typically 4 minutes in 30-40 degree temperatures). Certainly in those areas if you are hitting a light every 1-2 minutes you'll be lucky to get away with 12-13mpg.

the answer to your question is yup thats normal, big heavy truck, AWD, gas sucking V8 that has the powerband low down so traffic will kill your mileage cause you have all the torque on take off

pump else where
Yep, don't pump gas in the City. Go to CONN or NJ although those bridge tolls aren't help either.
Sorry couldn't help - read the user manual, it has a section of tips on how to save gas.

I'm getting anywhere from 13 to 18 mpg on my new 1 week old. 13 mpg with the first fillup. The 18 mpg is the second fillup and about 3/4 empty now. This second fill-drive was mostly nice low traffic inner roads and highway driving. Premium gas both times.
