Yes, the iPod is charged by the Vais Tech system while it plays. It is the same as when you have it connected to your computer via firewire (or USB for 4th gen iPods).

Default Difference betwen AIC-100i and AVIC-100i

Looking at their web site, it looks like you nee the AVIC-100i to get the MD functionality and the ID3 tags to show up on the nav screen. Am I reading this correct ad the AVIC is double the price of the AIC.

Or possibly the difference is the AVIC adds an extra video source for your nav screen that the AIC doesn't have, but the iPod part functions the same.

Yes, the iPod mini works with the AIC-100i. I have both a 40GB iPod (4th gen) and a mini and they both work fine.

I know that you need the AIC-100i to get the MD functionality w/ ID3 tags. From reading their web site, it looks like the AVIC simply adds a video input capability to the AIC, but for quite a bit more money.

I took some pictures during the install process and created a web site with the pictures and description of how I installed the unit. Hi, very useful thread, I'm just about to purchase the unit and am not sure if this interface will provide the id3 support on my mark levinson, The people at vais gave me sort of a sketchy answer and I want to know if anyone has tried it. My trux is a 2001 LX470 by the way.

Thank you for the instructions Darryl. Not shabby at all
