Navigation DVD Versions
I'm trying to determine the valid DVD versions that will work in my 2003 GX.
My 2003 GX came with 2.1, and I know that the 2005's come with 4.1. I tried a DVD that had 3.2 on it and my system failed to recognize it as valid.
So, for those 2004 GX owners, what version DVD did you navigation system come with? Also, has anyone seen a list that compiles this information?
Thanks,
Tony

Lexus Nav DVD
The latest version you can buy is 4.1. This will give you more information such as more Points of Interest listings and more roads and some new cities but it will not give you the same screens as the 2005 GX because that has the new Generation 4 hardware and software which is faster and has features like bluetooth phone capability and 10,000,000 commercial phone numbers with addresses and Latitude-Longitude coordinates. There are special features on the gen. 4 in the cities of LA, Chicago, Detroit and NYC. It will zoom down to street and building details like one way streets and building footprints. If you click on a building it drops down with an alphabetical listing of all of the businesses and their respective phone numbers. At least you have the 7 inch color touch screen. My RX300 has the 5 inch screen. The first Generation systems had a 4 inch screen and were slow and very basic. Any other Nav questions?

Sure... That is if you have a deep wallet and some Lexus connections and don't wind pulling a Frankenstein on your Lexus.
Otherwise.. It's not really possible
I feel the pain too!

However, I know that running the 4.1 DVD will give me new updated map data, and that is the heart of my question. Since the 4.1 disc is expensive (as has been discussed in previous threads), I'm interested in running a 3.x DVD to obtain some map database improvements over my 2.1 disc for less $$ right now. I know it isn't the latest map info (as 4.1 would provide), but it is better that I have right now and used 3. x discs are reasonably priced (as 4.1 upgraders sell their 3.x discs).
So, for those 2004 GX owners, what version (3.x, I assume), came with your cars? What disc versions run on a GX besides 2.1 and 4.1?
Thanks,
Tony

Running different DVD versions
Sorry if I was rambling but you can't take another car's DVD to do an upgrade. As a matter of fact once you upgrade to a newer version you cannot go back and use the previous DVD again in your system. One good thing is that you don't lose any of your marked points when you upgrade. There have been recalls on some of the2004 Nav DVD's and sometimes the turnlist function under route overview on the menu page on older versions malfunctions. If so you might be able to get an upgrade under warranty if yours does that. Check with your dealer and tell them you are having problems and glitches. You need to have under 50,000 miles to be under warranty.

My 2003 GX470 came with version 02.1, then I filed a complaint to Lexus customer service after I noticed many established addresses (5 years or more) are still missing on the map. Then Lexus upgraded mine to version 03.1 free of charge.

There is at least one member of this forum who has a 04 GX that came with a 3.1 DVD and he updated with a 4.1 DVD.
Confused.....

DVD specifically for G3 vs G4?
Is seems that a G3 NAV Unit won't read a DVD from a G4 Unit. I just tried inserting a v4.1 DVD from a G4 unit into my 2003 GX, no go. I believe the Mapping software companies might offer Data v4.1 DVDs separately that are specifically compatible with G3 vs G4 units.
