Driveline thump & slop
Well, I was hopng the issue would have been resolved with the new design. I guess that is what I get for hopeful thinking.
Just a little background, I have a newer build model that has a VIN that is NOT in the TSB and supposedly has the new design splines/yokes in.
With 3K miles this thing jerks like a ride at Disneyland. Anytime I first get on or off the gas, there is this secondary thump. Also after I stop and start to go again, so is the thump.
I think Lexus needs to try again.
Talked to the Shop Forman at my dealer and he has confirmed that he has had two 04' GX's in there for the driveline issue already, and they are both with VIN's with the new design.
Here we go again.
This time I am ready for the ride though.

I had the same thing, but now with 7000 miles on mine it really has gone away ( or lessened to the point you don't notice it). I kept having the dealer lube them which helped, but it seems like with more milage those "bump" feelings have really diminished or gone away completely. I probably had the dealer lube them about 4 times also, which helps. Just hang in there, I am sure they will go away with time!

It needs to wear in, the newer build models should have a different driveshaft that supposedly wears in faster to eliminate the thump, my 4Runner was bought in November of 03 and the thump was their never fixed and is now gone

About how many miles before this annoyance goes away. I have just had the driveshaft replaced and the thump has started up again.
So basically you guys are saying I should have never had it replaced and it would have went away faster??

It went away at 8-10k and by 15k I never had it anymore, I've done city driving in stop and go and it is completely gone.
Document your issues but give it some mileage to wear in

i used 2 have the thump, but 3 things resolved it.
1st: The mechanic should be a fairly experienced one.
2nd: The obvious- replaced the driveshaft
3rd: Greased it up, and IT's GONE!!!

Well for me it isn't the thump every so often that bothers me, it is the slop in the driveline. In stop and go traffic, (common here is California) it is really like being on a ride at Disneyland.
I even tryed using the '2nd start' button and drop into 2nd gear so all stop and go trafiic is without gear changed, but you can still (very sharply) feel the cluck feel every time you step on the gas and release the gas, makes for a very jerky ride in a vehicle line that prides itself on smoothness
