Default Navigation System Features

Took my 2003 GX on it's second long road trip this last weekend.

Was coming back from the beach and a bad accident closed the interstate. So being a bit of a techo - I cam up with an idea. Pull off - since thats the only way you can really change the Nav settings and should also for safety sake too.

Turned off interstates/major roads and had the Nav re-calculate the course of travel. It re-routed us to back roads for about 16 miles. Then got back to the interstate. Pulled off then turn back on the interstates and had the Nav re-calcuate the route. I heard later the accident took 1.5 hours to clear up so I saved myself alot of headache.

The Nav really paid for itself.

Would love to hear anyone else great stories about their Nav systems - got to get some enjoyment out of it since it was a mightly big expense upfront.

Awaiting your responses!

Default Detour

There was really no reason to pull off and turn off interstates. There is a detour feature in the NAV system with pre-sets of 5 or 10 miles or all of the route I beleive. This can be done while moving. If on an interstate it will take you off the next available exit. Don't remember the steps but can get them later if you cannot find it. I have used this, very nice feature.

I tried that but was on a stretch of interstate that didn't have detour options. Just posted this because I thought it was cool how it re-calculated the directions.

Thanks for your suggestion - had already tried that one!!!

Toy/Lex Nav. is the best.! I'll never be without it again in my main ride.

One of my favorite features is the Points of Interest, when in a strange town.

I wish their next version would also offer POI lookup by number. Like the Acura Navi. The voice command in the Acura Navi also much user friendly compare to the Lexus's. And the Acura also offer programming on the move too.

One of my greatest peeves is the inability for my wife to program the Nav on the move. I plan to take care of that matter, soon.

If you mean the ability to find a destination by inputting the phone number, it should have that feature. If my Land Cruiser has it, you should have it on the GX. It's on page 2/2 of the destination page.

I am on version 03.1 and I just triple checked and found no such option under any of destination screens. Can anyone else verify if we can search POI by their 10 digits phone number?

Thanks!

I don't know what version I'm on since the 'Cruiser is driven primarily by my wife, and I'm currently at work. With the 'Cruiser at least, on the page where you can enter a destination by address, name, etc., at the top of the page there is an arrow and it displays 1/2. If you touch that arrow, it will bring you to a second destination screen that allows you to find destinations by intersections, and phone numbers.

I'll post more specifics when I get home and walk through it again.

OK, I have version 3.1 as well.

Here are some pictures.

This is the first page of the destination screen. I circled the area to access the second page.
