Talking New!

Well, I just brought home the new baby last night; build 97000 G. Thanks to all of you I took it for an extensive road test before handing over the check. Everything checked out PERFECTLY (except a weird rattle at 75mph which turned out to be loose luggage rack cross beam screws; hadn't been tightened; simple fix).

I'm thrilled. Will be taking it out to a ranch on Sunday for some mild "off-road" fun. I owned a 2003, which I bought in Jan of 2003 but had to sell for personal reasons. This new vehicle is fully loaded and the KDSS really makes a difference. Very noticable reduction in body lean when getting on and off the frwy. The vehicle also came with the SS tail pipe bling bling; nice unexpected touch.

So far, afte 20 miles, I've got absolutely nothing to complain about and am riding high. Hope all of you have the same luck and enjoy your rides as much.

Bob

Sorry; couldn't think of the term when I was writing the email, so I just put that in. The window sticker calls it an Exhaust Tip - $75.00. It's stainless steel. Not welded on but clamped. Adds a nice touch, though nothing I would have paid extra for; was just included unexpectedly.

It is the same exhaust tip discussed here in this forum:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...5&pagenumber=3
I think it's the one you can buy for the 4Runner...

Talking Conglratulation to your Brand-New GX!!

How different are they between your truck build 9700G and among the others?
The exhaust tip is one thing, how about the Navigation? Newer version 3.01 up?

Anyway, you got yourself a great ride, and welcome to the forum!!

Thanks for the well wishes, all. There are some differences:
* No Lexus Link: dealer said it was discontinued as not enough folks were signing back up after their year expired. Also it was analog and Lexus is going to go digital. So no little antenna.
* Rear seat arm rest doesn't rattle when down like the '03 did.
* RSAC off/on button is new; I think this only comes with KDSS; because the side curtains now sense and deploy on roll-over, this disables the Roll Side Air Curtains feature when doing severe off roading.
* There is more underbody protection (a screen and cage) for the oil pan area.
* The rear cargo matt is not as thick and plush as the '03 one.
* There is a storage area on the port side in the cargo area for a "first aide kit"; that's new
* There is something related to the towing wiring. It's to the left of the steering wheel down low by the 110 Volt A/C switch; I saw something in the manual about it last night but it was late; will have to re-read.
* I don't remember the wind noise shield that pops up when you open the sun roof being as scalloped as it is on this vehicle.
* Obviously the KDSS, backup camera, tire pressure monitor, roll sensing side curtain deployment, Nav system software, and no trailer hitch are all changes.

As for the height in the rear from floor to top of wheel well:
34.5 inches on the port side, 34.75 inches on the starboard (passenger) side. Slight list to port, I guess
Don't notice it at all and doesn't make my drinks spill, so no biggie

Been out doin' errands today; SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) loves it!!

Not that I've noticed, but I haven't really tested it yet. I'll let you know tomorrow night or Monday; I'll be putting about 200mi on it.

BTW, the changed item I thought was related to towing wasn't. It was the button for tire pressure monitoring to set it at tire set 1 or 2.

DVD is version 3.1
No pull. Very straight tracking. This is different than my previous vehicle which was aligned to pull slightly to the right (on two lane highways you would veer off the road rather than into incoming traffice if you dozed off; fortunately that never happened!).
Used low on the Low/Neutral/High shifter (no need to lock the differential) and DAC today with great success. Travelled winding roads to get there and was simply amazed at the tracking capability of KDSS; what an incredible difference!

rgacpa,

Does your Navi DVD 3.1 offers phone number entry? Mine is version 2.1 and I just found out there some place is not registered. I am considering upgrading to the newer version.

Thanks!
