I chose the Curt hitch over the others. I think it looks better and is stronger.

Cap,
Got a question for you. I also had the Curt hitch installed. Noticed that the wire harness connector couldn't open the flip door. It was hitting the hitch. I ended up turning it around which opens away from the hitch. Do you have any clearance problems? Also, I need an extremely long wire from the trailer which is a pain.

My installer noticed that the door didn't open. He proceeded to bend the bracket down as much as he could. Then he went in the store and came back with a flexible pigtail connector that plugs in and converts to a flat connector. It appears that it will work perfectly if I use the small connector. Don't know what I will do if I ever need to use the large connector. Probably, will have an after market kit installed.

Can I ask for a big favor? Can you send or post a picture of the wire harness/pig tail they did? I'm probably going to need to do the same. The connector that comes with the truck sucks as far as where it's located.

The U-Haul pigtail he used is called, TRAILER-WIRING ADAPTER. Converts 7-way "spade type" to 4-way flat piggyback. The product number is 13481. Fits standard 4-way flat and plugs directly to any U-Haul trailer.

Ok - I'm confused. Lexus4nz has a reference link on page 1 of this discussion to an earlier discussion of hitches. In that earlier reference, Civiferio shows an older 5000# rated hitch which he installed. This is exactley the hitch system I want because I'm the typical 'bike rack' tow hitchuser that does not want a 6500# hitch. Apparantley, the setup he purchased comes with some parts that are now on the car - i.e. wiring harness, colored bumper cover, etc.. He also stated that he spent $600. Wow. Does anyone have an idea where I can find the 5000# tow hitch with only the parts needed? I called my Lexus dealer's parts dept. and he didn't even know what I was talking about in terms of the 5000# version. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the pic Cap. I need to go and get that type of plug. Definitely have to do some bending of the bracket. I ended up having to turn mine 180 degrees to be able to fully open the lid.

Has anyone found a place to buy the 5000# hitch yet? My buddy is looking for one and wasn't sure if Toyota was the place to go. His GX came with the tow package, just didn't have the hitch installed. The dealer installed the 6500# hitch and he doesn't like all the visible metal.

If your buddy does not want to see the extra metal, Lexus has a OEM hitch which does not hang below the bumper.

Check the web for ..corbins hitch
They quoted $250 which seems high but I don't know how much the Lexus hitch cost. Is the 2003 4Runner hitch the same as Lexus #5000 hitch?

We called Corbin's today. They sell the 5000# hitch, but only to a dealer or installer. We called the local Lexus Parts Department and told them were to get the lighter hitch. Now we're waiting to see if they'll exchange it for the 6500# hitch that is installed. What a run around!!! Corbin's quoted $440 installed (with the wiring harness) for those that are in Carolina.
