Thumbs up My New-To-Me 08' GS350 AWD: First Road Trip (pics, q's)

New to ClubLexus.com and wanted to let y'all know that I appreciate everyone's posts, as I definitely spent hours looking through the forums, making sure I didn't buy a headache.

Just got the keys to my 2008 Lexus GS350 AWD, Starfire Pearl, Nav/Cam/Bluetooth, Heated/Cooled Seats, Front/Back Radar, with 18" Alloys, and 56K miles on the odometer.

Got her for $20,200 and with a trade in of $7500 on my '06 Nissan 350z (126k), WITH A 4YR WARRANTY, I was able to get my payments to less than what I was paying on my Z. Super pumped about that!

Took her down to Kemah/San Leon, TX from Houston over the recent Memorial Day Weekend (5/24/15) to get some sun and relaxation in. She did GREAT on the 1.5 hour hike to the beach. And I've never had a sunroof before (!), so naturally we did the trip with it open, and the windows down, just about the whole way. It was GREAT!

And it turned out to be quite a pretty weekend, despite the looming rain!

Couple Q's:

1.) My cigarette lighter by the ashtray doesn't seem to be working, but the one in the console does, is it likely a fuse, and where would I change that at? (sorry haven't researched that much, just found out last night)

2.) My "HomeLink" buttons don't seem to work or respond, but the Compass in the Mirror works fine. Anyone know what gives there?

Thanks for all of y'all's help, and glad to be a part of ClubLexus!

the cig lighter is a fuze. I dropped a penny in it before and burned it out. It is easy to burn out. I have no idea about homelink, I don't have a garage.

Great Picture - Congratulations! I'm sure you two will be very happy together

I have the same issue with my lighter, but constantly forget about it because I don't smoke or allow smoking in my car. I will look into the fuse now and get it replaced.

Congrats on the purchase, the homelink doesn't work you may need to reset it first. I believe you press the first and last one and wait for it to clear all the codes on it before.

You might have to pair it up with your garage door opener, check the directions on that end. That's all I use, but I think you can hook it up to inside lights too.

Why an AWD in Houston? Do you occasionally drive to snow states?

(please don't take offense to this question, it's the opposite of the question I get for owning a RWD GS460 in Denver)

Offense not taken, trust me! I scowled myself for going with AWD where I will typically not need it, but the lady is from Minnesnowta. I hopefully don't ever have to take it up there, but if I do, I'll be "ready".

And to be COMPLETELY honest, between RWD, AWD, NO-WD, it was consistently the best deal I could find on a 3GS, for 500 miles (lowest mileage, best price per options/mileage). So, I bit the bullet, and went with the "sweet" AWD version. So far, I love it.

I actually just got back from up there. We visited over this past weekend, and all of her family gave me props for getting the AWD version, "Just In Case, right? "

So, another thing I've noticed in my frustration of the "Homelink" not working, is it's not the same as the Homelink I've had in the past ('06 350z).

The buttons appear to be different than that of a Homelink brand. As stated prior, the Compass in the mirror works (as you can see in the pic), but none of the lights come on when I hit any of the buttons.

See the picture below for reference.

Any ideas anyone?
(and of course I tried clearing out the Homelink with holding the two outside buttons, keep in mind I had a functioning one before this one, so I know how they GENERALLY work)
