42K miles on my 2009 GS460. Periodically, volume and tuner **** do not respond and aux jack not working. Dealer says there is likely a short within the unit and is recommending replacing (for $950). I am wondering if the models '10 and on have more bluetooth capability (i.e. music streaming instead of just calls), and if there is a USB jack instead of just an audio jack. And, if those units would be compatible. In other words, if I have to buy another head unit, could I get a more upgraded one?

The dealer said they will only recommend and guarantee an exact replacement, which is fair, but I wonder if there are other options.

The newer ones SHOULD work. What I would do is look at a lexus catalogue (factory parts) from any dealership and see if the ML amplifier and OTHER components are compatible with the head unit. You can also cross reference the wiring harness too to make sure, that way, the only thing that SHOULD have a different part number would be the head unit itself.

IIRC the 2010 and 2011 units are way different as far as the harnesses that plug in.

Oh man, that looks pretty different. As far as compatibility, how do I get an indicator of that?

From what I've seen it would take basically the entire system to make that swap....harnesses, HU, Amp....the only thing I'm not sure of is Navi unit...that probably has a different harness too...so I would say the complete system needs to be swapped.
