Why not open up both units and swap the glass to keep the oem look? if it is the same size reflection as you are saying.

I'm not sure the dimensions are exactly the same, and since it came off another lexus, close enough.

The gentex feels more solidly put together so I'll probably just leave it.

man alive...that photo of the mirror with the issues is nuts! My 09' mirror is fine. Sounds like you found a very good "work a round" though. I personally love the home link so I wouldn't want to give that up. I hate having to carry the regular garage openers on my visor or in the console compartment.

I agree... Homelink rules. If I still had a garage, I'd care a whole lot more. I'll try to think of a clever way to mount the homelink module somewhere....

so this was a used mirror for $35? or bulk sale?

My mirror has black crap on it like that too, and I'm pissed I didn't take care of it during the warranty period.

I thought it was a gentex mirror. so it isn't huh?

Anyway, the replacement mirror the dealer installs is a gentex, but it's a damn ripoff.

I don't use the garage buttons, so this could be a solution for me too.
I'm surprised the wiring harness matched up. Different gentex mirrors have different connectors.

I got it off ebay. It was in great condition.

As far as the wiring harness, the plugs were the same, but the replacement mirror came with a stub on it to splice in the existing wiring. The GS mirror has a Male connector that plugs into the headliner. The ES has a female, so it was very helpful to have that male stub to do the wiring.

Good info, Stoodo. Will keep it in mind if/when my mirror goes bad. So far, so good on my 2008 GS460.

Your lexus dealer might cut you a deal if you come at them that your concerned about it being safety hazard. My cousin brought in his GS and got half off. still a rip off, but it's an idea.

It is a Papago 520. I like it a lot. I just wish it was a little more discreet and had gps built in.
