Update #2.

The link above is for a clunk when coming to a stop. Crazy issues lol
Mine was a definite slip in first gear light throttle, then a hard thud/bang as it shifted to second. Wasnt software in this case, something in the trans.

After the buyer had the trans replaced with a 87k junk yard, the trans is now perfect. But after I got the car back, the second day, the heater did not blow cold again.
It took a litre and a half of coolant to top it off. On my way back over to that shop for a pressure test- when it was in the shop he said he couldnt find a leak. But over a litre is enough to show up quickly I would think. I dont think its getting into a cylinder because it runs well

You need to have a hydrocarbon test performed. All that coolant is going somewhere. In the 6 yrs ive had my GS ive only had to add about 6 ozs to the reservoir. You have a massive loss somewhere...

Hey Gotcha350, have you ever dropped your pan and replaced/cleaned filter on your GS?? I've looked for a DIY on the GS 350 here but haven't found one. I'd like to do it but want a guide first, lol.

Nope...but that's what I going to have done soon...I was told by my dealer that it's non serviceable but that it's attached to the bottom of the valve body like the 8 spd version.

I also think someone on here had an 06 GS300 and they said they replaced the filter.

I saw a DIY write-up on the RX and it didn't look to bad. I guess these GS trans are quite different.

RX and ES are all transaxles...a better comparison would either be the 8 spd in the 460 or the 6 spd in the Tundra.

Someone within the 3rd gen forum did a transmission fluid change and posted an entire DIY with pics and a step by step detail. From how to drain the fluid to changing the filter/seals/ etc. Really good write-up, and if you are handy then it should serve you well.

Alchemist did the DIY and no filter was involved. If you change your fluid regularly, you should never have to worry about the filter. My GS300 has over 150k on it and pan has never been dropped. Shifts as tight as when it was new.

I'm the second owner of this 2009 GS and through all the service history I see no evidence the fluid has been changed. Understandable, as the car is at 75k miles and Lexus (around here) isn't promoting changing until the 120k mile mark. So...the question in my mind is "how bad would my filter/pan be with 75k miles?" I would feel better about dropping pan, cleaning/replacing filter and getting all new fluid in...and THEN regularly change out the fluid...but I would like to see where someone has done this DIY style successfully. If I just change the fluid (which I will either way, filter or not) then I'll probably do the pan/filter at 100k or so...because I will keep this car for a LOT of miles.

As for your GS300...at what mileage intervals have you been changing out the fluid??

On the Gs300, I do it every 45k via the tranny cooler lines. I do the complete fluid replacement. On my Gs350 I did the complete fluid replacement by doing 3 at a time through the drain bolt and then doing the top off procedure. It had 82k on it when I did that. Car now is at 101k and the tranny is tight like it always has been.I will be doing the GS350 every 60k going forward.
