Default replacing starter on 3gs advise

Anyone ever do this them self, starter is behind the exh manifold on the passenger side, IS there anyway to get at it and tap solinoid to get car started without removing manifold and sway bar and intake? Need to get the car to a lift to replace it,looks like a pita to do. alldata says 3.8 hours and lexus says over 6 hours, thats a pretty big difference,$1400 for a starter installed is carazy.

I have not done it, but you can buy the solenoid cap at Sewells and just replace that.

can you send me a link to cap at sewells, IT looks like a major pain to do this job,IT would have made alot more sense to mount the solenoid in a much more assesable spot, when the starter is mounted all the way behind the exh manifold. The starter is over 700 from lexus,a reman is 130 after core charge.

in case anyone ever wants a resource to diy...http://workshop-manuals.com/lexus/gs...ent/page_6069/

part# is 28226B. This has brushes/contacts already in there. I bought it when I bought my alternator brushes and Alternator face plate with bearing already pressed in. It is $73 with CL discount

Rockauto has the rebuilt Denso for around $170. Can't go wrong there. Use the 5% off code and that will cover shipping. I still say pop the Solenoid cap on there and you are like new.

Snap a few pictures and give some advice once you go after it!

starter cap was bad, brushes looked good, cleaned alot of brush dust outa commentator, hooked it up direct to battery and it would spin but resistance was high and it would melt the lead on the positive side batt a good bit,I just bought a reman, too much hassle getting in there to get it out,to have it fail again any time soon..major pita

Default I have a spare original used starter

I kept this spare starter for the GS300 because I thought my starter was causing a jerk when starting but my assumption was wrong. I replaced with a new set but the problem is exactly the same. So the used starter is in great condition.

BTW, the starter is not that difficult to change and is definitely not over 3 hours of job.

I see PN is 28226B for the v6, same with the v8? I think I might order a spare.
