What supporting evidence? Everything posted does not show a test of the GS350 with 87 vs 93oct. If you show me something, real world testing of the actually vehicle I will be the first to switch.

I may just have to do the test myself

Ok we are basing this off the article which there are a couple on the internet. You will not find any evidence on your exact vehicle that should be understandable. Your car falls in the same category of a performance engine car, which they clearly discuss if you want specifics than do the test I could care less. Like I said before you will say what you will to continue to use Regular as I will continue to use premium. Can't teach a dog new tricks!

You can't argue history, 80k+ miles on 87 octane without complaint. Sure, I lose a couple mpg's in mileage but driving habits have a greater affect.

Default premium fuel vs regular - opinions?

I know this has been discussed before on this forum but with gas prices at new lows I figured now would be a good time to bring it up again. I always use premium only but was seriously considering going to regular.

Main question is do you think it's really bad for the engine or does it just affect performance slightly?

Just stick to premium. I test drove another GS460 before buying mine, and the owner had used only regular, so you could hear it pinging a little bit while going up hills. Also, it idled kind of rough. The car had 70k on it, and lord knows what else had been done in that time, but he did say he used 87/regular all the time. It's better for your car to use premium, and you really don't save THAT much by switching. Anyways, that's my .02!

you save $3.xx per tank. Does that break the bank?

I've seen damage from using lower than suggested octane rating...PID can do damage...I had a friend that lived in Atlanta that drove an Infiniti I35 and he used regular it used to ping like crazy going up a hill or when he tired to pass people. He had to replace the head gaskets and he had damage to the upper cylinder and some valves from the higher exhaust temps....so for me...i'll continue to use premium...and i'll leave plenty of regular for those who want to use that.

I was a poor college student with a NEW tundra back in 2004 and so I stuck 87 in the tank and it ran like shat... It burned quicker too and defeated the purpose of putting gas money using 87. Never will go back, similar concept when I was curious sticking race gas 101 in the tank... Took forever to burn and more power came from it. Using 91 is our sweet spot.

I try 2 tanks of premium, my gs430 didn't like it. Feels like it was going to stall. When that 2nd tank was running low, I put in regular and it was happy again.

This sounds a bit odd The car shouldn't feel like it's going to stall, especially with premium. Anyways, glad it works fine with regular!

Probably because the ECM had kept the timing retarded for so long that combustion was late...lol

That's what I thought too, so give it 2nd tank. It should readjust by than but it reacts just the same.

I'm not buying into the "premium is better" but give it a try to see how it's different. The result wasn't good. End of that experiment.

disconnect the battery to reset the ecu. Should be clean slate for use with premium gas.

If you don't mind the horsepower drop, keep using regular.
