Maybe you need to drive other cars like BMW, NISSAN, ACURA, FORD etc etc where the car idle high for the first 30 seconds, not until NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE which takes 3-5 minutes depending on how cold it is.

It depends on the outside temperature. I have an Acura, Infiniti, and the GS...they all idle high for 3-4 mins when temps are around freezing...they will idle around 1300 for about 30 seconds and then drop to about 1100-1000. It because the ECM is programmed to run full trim to help warm the car up to reduce emissions as quickly as possible.

As I said in earlier post, LEXUS idles high until normal operating temperature (take 3-6 minutes) depending on the temperature outside. Other cars I have owned and driven, will only idle high for the first 30 seconds. The issue is not the first 30 seconds of driving, its the annoying few minutes until it warms up. Every car idle high when cold started, some do it for about 30 seconds which i consider normal, Lexus won't drop to normal idle until it is FULLY warmed up which again can take few minutes and it is annoying driving those few minutes.

Bottom line: It's normal.

Next actions: Live with it, or buy a block heater.

End of thread.
