Hi guys,

New to this forum and to owning a Lexus . I recently bought an '06 model GS300 and have just had an issue appear with it that I wondered if I could consult your wisdom on...

Issue is that, whether in drive or reverse, the car accelerates on its own - not very quickly, but quickly enough that it'll crash me into my garage door if I'm not careful.

Does anyone know what this could be? Variously, I've read that it could be a Throttle Positioning Sensor, or Idle Air Control valve. Some things I've read suggest it could be air conditioning related (though I don't understand that one...).

Any answers hugely appreciated.

It does that only when it is cold, it keeps it at 1000 rpm until it is fully warmed up, it is annoying but that applies to all lexus.

Es350 IS250/350 my friends 95 ls400 my other friends 2006 es330, rx350 2009-2014. I mean every lexus I ever drove, some are more noticeable then others like gs350, and some are less like rx350.

Agree. I have owned 2 and both had this behavior. Its something you get accustomed to.

I'm confused. Any car with anything but the weakest of engines that is in gear will move forward when the brakes are not applied.

There is a difference between a vehicle moving forward at 600rpm at idle, or moving at 1,100rpm when cold.

Affirmative. I can creep up my slightly steep driveway without touching the gas pedal if the vehicle is still in it's warm-up, "open loop" stage.

Sure, but... that's expected. You go faster when you press the gas pedal.... in this case the car is pressing the pedal for you while warming up.

exactly. Most every car I can remember idled fast at warm-up and would "lurch" when you removed your foot from the brake. I'm very new to a 09' GS and noticed right away that it's more pronounced in this vehicle than in any other I've had...but again...only when it's cold. Since it's winter and fairly cold in my garage...i've been letting it warm up for about 5 mins or so before driving anyways.

Maybe it's your "floor mats" Pretty much every car I've owned has done this, so I wouldn't be too concerned. Just keep your foot on that brake pedal

Solution: Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal and allow your car to warm-up the engine a bit longer.

Solution: Lexus please lower RPM to normal IDLE range after 30 seconds since the car has been turned on, not 3-4 minutes lightly driving until it reaches normal operating temperature. There is not a single reason lexus need to keep it at 1k rpm until it is fully warmed up, None of my other cars done it. I have heard it will warm up faster, no thank you, if I need it to warm up faster I can give it more gas. Other solution is an auto start

You guys are all delusional. Lexus is perfectly normal like any other car on this subject. Maybe you guys need to learn how to drive. All cars idle faster when cold. I remember the days of carburetors. Back then you could hit thirty without touching the gas when the car was cold.
