How well made and reliable is the 3rd Generation GS? (thinking of 2009)

I got my '09 350 a few months ago. It is CPO with about 40k miles. It had regular oil changes and very good service history before I bought it. I have had two problems, I had to replace the drivers side illuminated door sill and the radio would randomly turn off. Consumer Reports rates Lexus above all other luxury brands for reliability but I think the CPO is cheap insurance. On a side note, Lexus service and the CPO program are top notch.

Show some proof before you come on here spewing the the 350's have an oil consumption issue. I've had my 08 since the odo had 5 miles on it and my oil level has never dropped. I have the oil changed every 5k or 6 months and I use a 0w-30.
So unless you have proof...dont misinform other of an issue that doesn't exist out side a few who might not have maintained their cars.

Plus one on this my man, when I read his post... i was like tf? lol, since when did we have oil consumption issues? I do oil changes at 5k using 5w30 royal purple. As what Gotcha350 says, don't be throwing around post carelessly and misinform other members unless you take pictures. Thanks
Eh, what could I expect from a $55,000 luxury car. I guess rich people trade in their cars before they hit 40,000 miles, so Lexus doesn't care if the thing throws a rod at 100K. Should have bought a Corolla.

I've had the Low Oil light come on twice in my GS 300 with only 88K on the clock. I'm preparing for the worst. I guess changing the oil religiously every 3K with Valvoline Hyper Synthetic at $10/quart wasn't good enough.

my mechanic works strictly on Lexus vehicles...
I asked him about upgrading from a 2GS
and he said "well you better get a 430!"
He said he always encountered crazy engine problems with the 300's or 350's and also everyone at Lexus dealership (back when he worked for them) always were skeptical of Toyota's first V6 with RWD and how it will work out
He also said the jury is out on the 460, not enough mileage to REALLY know how they withstand test of time.
So are 300/350 really to be worried about?

She's an '08. Got her in April with only 16k, haha. Trying to get it out more for long road trips to keep things properly lubed up, but I have a daily driver to hit the park & ride M-F, so I rarely drive it, just like the previous owner

First of all Lexus knows they have a problem with the 300 hence the reason that if your car has the oil consumption issue you have 9 yrs to get the engine rebuilt if it meet the criteria for the oil consumption test. Are you the original owner? Are you saying that since the first oil change that you have been using hyper synthetic and changing the oil every 3k? Have you taken your car in for the oil consumption test to see if you meet the criteria? Unfortunately you do have the engine that has issues with oil consumption but Lexus has done more than most companies would have but it will still never be enough.
B) In 6 years I have owned it, yes, I changed it every 3K with Valvoline Synthetic.
C) I don't know yet about the oil consumption test, they are looking at it now.
My GS was built 8/2005, despite it being a 2006. So the service tech says, they won't honor it, as it is 3 months outside the 9 year window. So now I have to kick it up a level I guess. When I got the letter, it wasn't doing the rough idle thing. Naturally, 3 months outside the warranty, I get the condition when it sits for 2 weeks. Never happens when warm.
We'll see what happens, now I wish I had waited a year and bought a 350.
