My guess is a fluid is burning near the outside air intake and being brought into the car. You may have a leak of coolant or oil? Run the car and open the hood, look underneath and in the engine bay for any signs of the smoke.

What did it smell like?

didn't really smell. it's more like vapor smoke. i didn't notice this until once in august and then yesterday. also never happened to my knowledge before i had the last recall done at Lexus last year. i haven't noticed any coolant leakage inside the car or oil leakage outside. i'll do an inspection later today as i'm going to remove the front lip i have on the car.

You may want to check and see if the condensation drain is plugged for your A/C.

If you let it go long enough your floor mats and floor will get soaked.

I saw a similar issue with my car along with a musty smell. A while later I noticed the floor in my car was soaked.

When I popped the condensation drain out, a lot of water pored out.

That's not smoke....its vapor and happens when the air blowing across the evaporator coil has high humidity and there is a big temperature drop in the air after being cooled....nothing to worry about...unless it has a coolant smell

i corrected myself saying it is vapor on post #5. no coolant smell. i had just not seen that much vapor at all since owning the car.

Here is the thread where they talk about where it is.

It is a real pain in the butt. I was able to get at it without disconnecting everything, but it cost me some skin and some sore muscles due to the awkward positions I had to get into to find it.

It looks like you may have figured it out, but this is still a good one to keep in mind.
