i have an 09' ....so my GS goes from being one of the two "more reliable" versions in June of 2014...to one of the "less reliable" 10 months later?!?!! Makes no sense...seeing as how the motor is basically unchanged since 07'.

again...where is that from? Internet site? Annual "Buyer's Guide"?
I have the last Buyers Guide, which is not even 10 months old...and the ratings are the exact opposite of what this is showing. Curious as to not only the changes..but from one extreme ("much better than average") to the other ("much worse than average"). Something isn't making sense here...

The only top end cleaning i recommend doing is to use a sand blaster with walnut shells. Do not use the chemical methods such as seafoam as the carbon is baked on really good and the chemicals would only wash off the surface then get stuck in the cats and also wash down the cylinder walls and thin out the oil making it worse.
Seafoam will do jack squat on this, you're correct in that, but a top engine clean will definitely clean it.

l have to assume that the older models (07, 08, 09) are the ones which are showing the issues, as the years and miles accumulate. I think the guy said that the current review only goes back to 08 or 09. So, if that were the case...we could assume CR's ratings would be similar for the 07'...and likely to change (for the worse) next year for the 2010. Either way...It's a curious point and I've emailed CR's with hope that they can offer an explanation. I'll update once they get back to me.

took my car into the dealer last week. They have found out the following:
"Your Lexus was diagnosed as using too much oil and it has a major misfire in the engine, this repair is covered by the extension offered by the manufacture , I will need an estimate time frame of two weeks for repair time, the only recommendation the technician has is to put new spark plugs and air filter in with this repair ,your cost while engine components apart $195.00, regular retail is $459.95"
wild stuff eh

I have an 06 GS300 and the car is fine as far as I know right now, but I've just hit 100k miles. If I begin to have this problem are you saying it's too late to get the engine rebuild without paying out of pocket?

It took 140,000 miles to show up for me. already have 40K on the new sort of rebuild. I am not sure if it will happen again but I believe it will. I don't think their is a fix for this. There might be a Band Aid you can put on it for awhile though.

Oil Consumption
I had mine fixed for the oil consumption issue back in 2012. Unfortunately, now oil is leaking from the front timing cover and I'm trying to get Lexus to resolve this issue, but they are refusing.

Yeah...good luck with that...3yrs after the repair...it sucks cause a seal or gasket probably wasn't seated properly...

How many miles have you put on it since you got it fixed in 2012? I am just waiting for mine to go out any time. I don't know how much time I got left. And now they are on later models? What about the 4GS is that going to happen on that also?

The oil leak was noticed by an another mechanic after approximately 30k. Since I regularly do my own oil changes, I didn't know to look for any leaks there. The problem is that I don't know when the leak started. It could have started shortly after Lexus worked on it or recently. When I took it to Lexus to check the oil leak they claimed that whoever was doing the oil changes was doing a crappy job since oil was all over the place. They cleaned the area around the front timing cover and told me to come back after 1000 miles. So in summary, I took it to Lexus for the recall, they fixed the recall, but I believe they didn't seal or seat the cover properly and now they want me to pay $3000 to fix this oil leak....after only two years...where is the quality of work there?...am I expected to fork over $3000 every couple of years because there is no incentive for Lexus to do it right the first time.

This only affects the 2006 GS 300...4GS has the same 3.5L from 07+...
