Rear differential service
Hello, what is the recommended mile interval to have the rear differential service done? I have a 2008 GS350 awd and was curious if I should do it now, or wait until I hit 60k to have it done?
Also, what does the service entail and has anyone done it and noticed any improvement after doing so?

You can look it up in your service schedule, but in terms of just time... I just do it every 3 years or so. You won't notice anything but it's not an expensive service.

Thanks. I've read threads where some have done the service around 60k. I'm currently at 52k and doubt the previous owner had it done. Should I get it done prior to that you think?

You just need some way of pumping new fluid into the fill hole. Car needs to be level. I believe you just pump fluid in and then let it drip out until it stops. But it only cost me $70 to have somebody else get dirty doing it not worth my time and I would say it's a pain to do it yourself because you would have to lift all four corners of the car on axle stands and find somewhere completely level. Front differential was only $30... difference being the rear needs an expensive full synthetic fluid.

You just need some way of pumping new fluid into the fill hole. Car needs to be level. I believe you just pump fluid in and then let it drip out until it stops. But it only cost me $70 to have somebody else get dirty doing it not worth my time and I would say it's a pain to do it yourself because you would have to lift all four corners of the car on axle stands and find somewhere completely level. Front differential was only $30... difference being the rear needs an expensive full synthetic fluid.

I just back the car up on ramps and undo fill bolt first and then drain bolt. Fluid comes out in minutes. I buy 2 quarts of Mobile 1 synthetic and a little quart bottle pump and refill after screwing the drain bolt back in with a new crush washer. Fill until trickles out the hole and put bolt back in with new crush washer and you are done. 15-20 minutes and roughly $20 for 2 bottles of 75w-90.
