Default Telescoping steering wheel broken

My steering wheel stopped telescoping (moving toward the driver/dash board) a couple of months ago. It still tilted (up and down) so I briefly looked into the cost of fixing it and it appeared on other ClubLexus forums the part cost about $300 and labor was $200 (roughly.)

I decided to live with it and it wasn't that bad so I didn't fix it.

I just replaced the battery so the seating/steering wheel preferences were lost. It no longer automatically tilts down when I start the engine. It is now an inconvenience so I decided to get it fixed.

I called the Sewell parts department who gave me the pasrt number (4581030210). It is $1,100. Plus labor it would be about $1,500. This is for a 9 year old car with just over 100k miles.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any other ideas for a cheaper fix?

Does the steering wheel move at all when you try using the joystick?

From deduction, it KIND OF sounds like a faulty joystick rather than telescoping module.

I would start with the part for that little joystick.... GL!

The joystick works. It tilts up and down with the joystick. When I try to telescope it (move it towards me) it makes a noise as if it is trying to move but doesn't physically move.

Find a used part at a wrecking yard. There is a bunch of them for under $400 here.
