Default Looking to purchase a 2008 GS460, what should I look out for?

I finally persuaded my brother-in-law to get rid of his lemon Honda Accord, and look into getting a more refined vehicle such as a Lexus. My sister hated his car, and it doesn't hurt that I own and love my 1999 LS400 either, so finally he caved in.

He really likes the way the 3rd generation GS looks and we are going to look @ a 2008 GS460 tomorrow.

I am going to ask if we can take the care to either a Lexus dealership or my personal mechanic for a PPI, but my question for the forum is if there are any glaring issues that I should look for specifically for this model? Like something that has a tendency to break/go bad, etc etc.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to test driving the car, and if all goes well, I will be glad that my brother-in-law joins the Lexus family.

Thanks!

Rattles, rattles, and more rattles... My driver's side door buzzes and rattles like crazy, and I hate it with a passion, but love the car overall (besides that). Another thing to look for is a leaky water pump. Good luck.

Anything that can be done to resolve the rattle issue? Or is it something you just have to live with?

Thanks for the reply!

There are about 47,000 threads on here about it, haha. A lot of people use folded up felt and cram them into the crevasses where the noises come from. I drive my GS460 MAYBE 3 times a month, so it doesn't bug me enough to do this, not yet at least...

look for inside wear on tires. Check struts on all 4 corners. Normal wear, but about time in this case to be thinking of replacing them if driven average mileage.

I do tend to grin whenever I hammer on the gas pedal and get reminded of how much faster it is than my SC400, haha.

For example (not me driving), here's a video I found. Apparently the GS has 19" wheels on too:

Don't sweat the small stuff. Buy it and enjoy the heck out of it. Just ensure maint is current.

I just looked up GS460 races on youtube, and came across this one, another of one spanking a modded STI, and another whooping a modded Evo.

Yes and he was supercharged at the time, which he has since pulled out.
