Hey all,

Bought new wipers (Michelin) a few weeks ago. For the first two weeks, there was a nice, smooth, noise-free wipe.

Now the driver's side wiper has developed a very annoying chatter. What I noticed is that there were a bunch of very thin lines on the driver's side windshield, almost as though the rubber had rubbed off and left the lines (which ran in the exact same direction as the wiper). I've tried a special glass cleaner, wd-40 on the wiper, you name it and nothing has worked. I clay barred the windshield this morning as a last resort but haven't tested it out yet.

Any suggestions?

clay bar would've been my advice, that should do the trick. also, make sure your wipers don't have any rough spots and isn't placed on backwards.

if that doesn't work then I would change the wipers. I have always used rain-x latitudes... pretty pricey but never had a problem with them on my previous cars.

Thanks EJ. I'll give it shot. We've had monsoons here every day for the past 10 days but the rain is supposed to take a break until Sunday. I'll try the Latitudes if this fix doesn't work.

noise and thin line, sound like the wiper hopes as it wipe. I only experience this effect when using silicon wiper which guarantee life time of replacement to another silicon wiper.

cheaper old classic rubber wiper is the way to go. In my old car, the problem got less after switching back to rubber. But seem like the damage been done to the windshield glass surface itself.

You can slightly bend the wiper arms "slightly" tweaking/adjustment it to where it will stop.

i always use the factory wiper blades/arms. put those back on and see if it goes away. also on my windshield i use those glass range glass polish to remove all oxidation and gunk...

+1 the OEMs work the best for me so far. Besides they're cheaper than all the other stuff. Just buy wiper inserts for like $9 bucks

the spring tension on the wiper arm may be getting weak as well may need replacing if all wiper blades keep failing in a short time
