Default Gear or Engine Whine in 1st and 2nd Gear

Hey Guys -

I don't spend alot of time here because the 08 GS350 is my wife's car and I rarely drive it..

Anyway, I've noticed when I do drive it there is a detectable whine that I can perceive when accelerating normally in 1st and 2nd gear. Originally I thought it was something engine related, so I took it to the dealer and made mention of the condition. They didn't detect anything abnormal on this particular visit - although I did get them to change out the water pump. Thank God for CPO warranties!

Anyway, the whine is still there. It is due for another oil change in the next 500 or so miles so I'll probably bring it up again for them to look at. Just wanting to know if the whine is normal under routine acceleration or not.

Maybe a wheel bearing, try this when you hear the whine turn the steering wheel slightly and see if the sound changes at all

It is not a wheel bearing, but thanks for the tip anyway...

I have the same problem I took it to the dealer and they said its nothing... I have a 2008 GS350 as well. It still bugs me but the dealer told me we don't have the quietest motors out of their lexus line up. Let me know if you find out if you figure out what the cause is so I can get mine looked at haha

Alternator bearing possibly or a tensioner

08 owner here, whine is apparent as well. I think it's just another noise we have to live with, like the clicking of the valves due to direct port injection. Tanabe exhaust solved some of the whine problem...haha

Well, it sounds like I'm in good company with the whine, but its unfortunate to be in this select group. I don't yet know what it is..

I will do my best to report back what the dealer technicians come up with. My service advisor is top notch, so she'll give me the best tech to isolate the issue.

I should be able give you guys/gals some input in the next week or so.
