Default Looking for tips, hacks, or plain ol' good advice

Last weekend, I carbon-cleaned the top end and just yesterday, tfing alternator crapped out on me. I probably spilled some Chem-Clean and it fried the diode pack... the bearing sounds good, so tonight I'm taking it off and cleaning tf out of it with acetone and 2-24(electrisol). I'm not a mechanic

, but I fix my own car(s). I purchased Lo-Retta in January '22 and I don't plan on parting with her. My first Lexus. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated....

You can get a Denso brand rebuilt alternator from Rock Auto for around $150 (plus ~$80 core charge). Rebuilding your OE alternator can be less costly, but given that replacement requires a fair amount of skill or a good helping of luck to get the rear bracket lined up right, I'm not sure I can recommend rebuilding in good conscience. That said, if rebuilding, I recommend replacing the special "alternator decoupler" pulley. A lot of the earlier models either didn't come with a protective lid on the pulley or it fell off, causing the pulley to wear out. You need an impact wrench and a special tool (can borrow from Autozone or O'Reilly or whatever) to remove the pulley.

I didnt fully rebuild my alternator, I just removed it, and replaced the brushes that I purchased from the dealer. Over 200k miles on my stock alternator. Im thinking of doing the same for the starter
