GS450h or GS460 which one to get?
I'm looking at purchasing either a GS450h or the GS460. I'm planning to rack up some miles and will keep it for a good 5-10 years.
Is the GS460 as quiet as the GS450h? I intend to use it as a daily driver which means lots of km mixture of stop go and highway use. So silence is bliss for me.
My only concern with the GS450h is the battery dying on me out of the warranty period and I have to pay for the replacement battery myself. Where the GS460 does not have any battery issues to worry about.
I can live with the added thirst of the V8 I just want a reliable car that I don't need to throw money at it apart from the usual servicing.
Any suggestions?

You'd think the 450h is "quiet." After that it's just like a normal engine.
But in stop and go constantly, I find in the 450h, you'll only get .1-.2 miles down the road in stop and go before the engine kicks on again.
If you want a decent hybrid system, I'm not gonna lie... Personal experience tells me to get the ct200h, not the GS450h. The GS450h imo is a great performance car, with a LITTLE umph in mileage with gas, but gas mileage isn't your concern.
I say you should try both cars, and see what you like most.... At the end of the day it's not our opinion that puts you in the drivers seat, it's yours.

Ok the difference is noticeable the 450h is quiet in stop and go but if it is to much like an hours worth of traffic you engine will come on and off. The gas mileage was pretty good for the amount of speed you got out of it. I owned one for a couple of years and found that the constant on becomes unnoticeable unless you get an exhaust. Lexus in general is a quiet car hybrid will be quieter but 460 will be quiet enough. Hybrid's will last and if your to worried about it than I would say go with the 460 if you like the 450h go with that you will be happy, problems exist in any car.

Lexus hybrids are really good -- no argument there. BUT I would very strongly suggest acquiring the GS460 -- no muss, no fuss, no battery worries. We have a 2008 which is totally great. The warranty valve spring work was done a short while ago, so that's all good. Not a problem. So, my advice would be to go for a 2010 or 2011. If you can find one with the suspension kit option (sadly the 2008 did not have that available), you'll be even happier. After acquisition, you should have a totally trouble-free, economical, extremely / supremely high-quality vehicle that will give you many, many years of superb luxury / performance service. Brake squeal can be annoying, and may need attention with a shim package if you find it that way, but brake performance will be excellent regardless. Depending on your particular needs, the high-beam bulbs may need an upgrade. Also, I am getting a set of air-horns installed soon but only because we have some of the least attentive drivers imaginable here in / near Calgary. Good luck with your final decision. It depends on which model you're looking to purchase. I purchased a 2007 GS450h in December and traded it the middle of February for a 2008 GS 350. The GS450h had only 65k miles, which is well below the 100k warranty mark. But I made this decision because like you I was worried about the traction battery replacement cost. I have read and many members on this forum will tell you the hybrid systems are very reliable. I just didn't want to take that chance.

I own a GS450H and I'll vouch for it. Yes, the battery is always a concern, but Toyota original batteries are known to last for very long mileages (i.e. Prius taxis).
Some of the benefits of owning the GS450H:
- Super fast. Acceleration is superb.
- Quiet. I love sitting at red lights with the engine off and no engine car vibrations.
- It comes factory loaded, so you don't have to worry about options.
- The GS450H exclusive 18" wheels (2007-08) are the best of all GS OEM wheels in my opinion.
- I get a Hybrid discount with my auto insurance.
- I can park in reserved Hybrid spaces.
- Overall feeling of having an updated technology when we know electric cars are the future.
- GS450H are very rare and hard to spot, so you feel unique driving one.

Battery's covered to 150k.
But 460 all day long, if you can find one. They're quicker and more fun to drive. The CVT in the 450 feels weird to me. The V8 and normal tranny are way more satisfying. I'd even take a 430 over the 450h.

Also the GS460 is way more rare than the 450h. We have like ten customers with 450s (including one in the shop right now for hybrid battery replacement) and I've seen a total of three 460s come through in the two years I've been at the dealer.

For those of you voting 460.. Have you had REAL time with a GSh or are you just voting being close minded? I've owned GS300, GS400, GS430 and I now own a GS450h.. When I was given the opportunity to get into another vehicle I cringed at the fact that they did not have anymore GSh's they would have had to practically GIVE me the GS460 they had and I didn't want it.. Great car but once you go performance hybrid you don't go back. The GSh IS FASTER throughout the entire powerband from zero to speed limiter. Comes fully loaded just as the GS460 and I get 27-30mpg which I'm sure the V8 can't touch.
GSh: Faster, Quieter, Better on gas.. Get in one and drive it...

The CVT is a huge turn-off for me. The fake upshift just doesn't do it for me. And the acceleration is just not enough to make it worth it. To me, the 460 jumps up and goes and feels powerful throughout the powerband. The 450h does its weird CVT party trick and leaves you waiting for the fun part to happen.
