Upgrade from GS430 to GS460?

$11k is probably 2/3 of what the GS430 is worth. That's definitely more than I'd pay to replace mine, especially since the '06 depreciation is now slowing down. I'd love to have the Gen5 Nav, but the newer engine and 8 speed wouldn't be big enough draws for me.
If the new one is a color combo you prefer over your current car, I can see how that would have some value.

The power from the 430 vs 460 is not that much difference. I've driven both and they are both quick.
I would keep the car that paid off and leave it at that.
There is no point of spending 11k for the same car that you don't know much history about.

Honestly, at this point, that would be the only reason to get it. And, I'm not saying that it's a bad reason. I learned today that the 460 most likely needs brakes all around. That's at least another $1,000 that I'll have to kick in.

Have you driven a 460 before? If so, was there not enough difference in performance? I've only driven a gs450h and a gs350, which I currently own. I personally cannot tell much of a difference in performance; however, the gs350 feels like the more nimble car.
My biggest question is what made you consider getting the 460 in the first place? Given the chance, I would definitely trade for a gs460, and then I'd be finished looking at cars for a very long time.

What I'm finding is that it will cost me about $11,000 to do the upgrade due to the fact that I have to cover his sales tax that he's losing on his trade in, plus I'll have to pay state sales tax when I go to register it. Also, I get no tax credit by selling my car to Carmax. Lastly, it looks like he needs brakes and a 60k service. Granted, the brakes and 60k mile service are a wash with the 90k mile service that I would have to do, so it's really just a question of whether it's worth it to pay $11,000 for a 2-year newer car that is out of warranty and that never needs a timing belt.
I really don't know, but I need to decide soon. Thanks for everyone's opinions. I really do appreciate it.

I wouldn't even consider it for $11,000. That's insane. I had a chance to buy an 08 460 for $27k but decided to save myself $7k and buy a 350 that is ALMOST as fast, gets better gas mileage and has the 6 speed trans that I personally preferred.
On the other hand I would have loved to have had that 460 for the rare points, torque, and sound. They are amazing vehicles.

Put the numbers aside and get what you think will make you happy for the long term.. You'll regret it later if you don't..

I've only been in my 06 GS430 for a year, but I'm already considering upgrading. Other than the obvious differences (engine size, hp, tq, mpg, etc), is there anything else different? I'm thinking along the lines of audio and other convenience items. I'm losing patience with the dated audio and NAV system my 06 ML has.
I won't be offended if someone reprimands me and links to a list that’s on the forum somewhere.

Mine is a 08 GS460 and from what I observed the 08+ GS460's has revised front bumper and grille, signaled mirrors, revised steering wheel buttons, italic text on speedo gauge, revised shift gate, fully painted rear bumper, front seats have black chrome inserts ... as stated above bigger engine, 2 extra transmission gears and most importantly timing chain for the engine

you keep bringing up the "$1500 timing belt" job.
the dealer just rapes you beyond belief and it's reprehensible.
you can buy the OEM belt and water pump kit from sewell parts for like $120 and any competent mechanic can do the job for like $150 in labor.
doing the 90K or any of the major services at the dealer is a joke.
not trying to talk you out of getting a new car just figured I'd throw that out there.
