Unhappy *****Exhaust Pipe Leak for 2006 GS300 :(******

Hi All,

I am having 2006 Lexus GS 300 which is having exhaust leak in the midpipe(close to O2 Sensor), I visited Monroe auto they suggested replacing the whole exhaust as the pipes are not in good shape to do the welding & even if they do welding Issue will resurface pretty quickly at other places.
I need the comunity help to find out what are the options I am having to change the exhaust midpipes(any aftermarket exhaust's & How much it will cost to replace it).

Response will be highly appreciated

The entire midsection is roughly $1,500 (17410 in pic)

OE is the way to go if your only other choice is welding slag metal to your exhaust.
I know there is an aftermarket (performance oriented) mid-pipe, but forget what it is at the moment. For my $, I'd go OE, but its not the only way.

This is not a common issue for the GS I dont think, I would suggest a visit to a decent muffler shop for a second opinion and look at the actual location of the leak etc....

Is it possible that it is a ratle and not an exhaust leak?
EyeKutr is correct this is not a common problem. Any major work done to the engine? Maybe the gaskets where it connects to the manifold flange are not seated properly.

This is a common problem especially on the AWD. Mine did the same thing, a visit to a muffler shop, they removed the clamps and just welded the pipes back together. No issues whatsoever and only cost $25 bucks.

Make sure they remove the dust shield as those are the cause of the rusting.

No. The pipes are not stainless they are your typical rust magnets.

By the way I replaced all those clamps, the clamps themselves rusted to nothing and do cause an unsettling pinging rattle sound when they are not seated firmly. Hardware store stainless ring clamps for a dollar or so each solve that problem.

Thanks for the gr8 feedback & solutions.Today I visited another exhaust shop & He did recommend to cut the pipes & replace them with new pipes on both sides(as I am having 6-7 leaks & lot of rust on the pipes).I agreed with him & gave it a shot.He did cut the pipes after O2 sensor & Before CAT Converted & replaced them with new pipes. It costed me 300$ out of door.

$300 to last 1 to maybe 2 years.
You put an expensive band-aid on this situation. A fix befitting a Ford Taurus, not a Lexus.
If you still have the car in 1 to 2 years, it will creep up on you again. Just be prepared for that.
