Ironman50

I have 50K on my Bridgestone Serenity tires.....great tire.

However, after the weather (snow - sleet - ice) this past weekend in Louisville I plan to buy some new different tires. This RWD Lexus is terrible in these conditions.

I have always been a Bridgestone - Michelin fan.

However, it has been recommended that I consider the Continental DWS / Extreme Contact tire.

Has anyone had experience with this tire especially those of you with RWD?

Any suggestions - ideas - recommendations would be appreciated.

yes RWD. no issue in driving. I've used snow mode twice probably. Also the reason I did not choose AWD is because where we are it would probably be needed maybe 3 days out of the yr - so the rest of the time a waste in gas mileage.

main complaint i have read of the DWS is flat spotting if car sits more than two days. I travel a lot and park my car at airport sometime 5 days at a time. Yes they do flat spot, but it goes away after the first mile driven so I dont consider it a big deal.

I have 25000 miles on mine and they are still quite which is what I wanted.

I have Conti DW on mine (doesn't snow in CA) and quite frankly I hate them. They flat spot like crazy and they are too soft. I hear the Serenity's are maybe just as soft (not great for cornering) so may you will not mind the softness but the flat spotting is not good. If you drive the car every day you will probably never feel it but let it sit 1-2 days or a week and you live with a flat spot for the first 10-20 miles until it disappears.

I would veer away from the DWS because of flat spotting aswell, it drives me nuts

I had the DWS on mine when i bought it and they were practically brand new. I hated those tires because they were too noisy and after the first week i got rid of them and i bought kumhos. The kumhos are quiet and i like the way they ride.

interesting comments. My DWS tires have been quiet even after 25k miles and the flat spotting has never been an issue for me - it goes away quickly. My friend has the DWS on his BMW 535 and has never mentioned flat spotting. Could be we all have different manufacturing runs - some have issues, some dont.

I had the Kumhos and they were so loud I thought I had a bearing issue in both front hubs - they growled like crazy especially around turns. Remember - most tires are quiet when new but once you get 10k miles or so on them they can get louder. I am going to try the Pirellis next.

LOVE the DWS. Best tire I've ever had, and no, never had the flat spotting issue either, even after leaving the car in an airport parking garage for a week.

Flat Spotting: once the car is parked, the spot on the tire in contact with the ground (the tire's footprint) flattens as it is pressed against the road's flat surface as the tires cool.
