Default Roof side molding/drip molding

Has anybody had this painted yet??
I'm getting some work done on my car next month. The bodyshop I decided to go to is charging about $500 for both sides. He recommended me to buy it from Lexus, but I don't want to pay $1300 and have it happen again down the road. I hope the paint holds up a few years and if it happened to crap out, I'd repaint it. That would still be cheaper than the Lexus OEM crap quality!

I have an 06 GS 430 and mine is doing this on the DS front up close to the windshield.

I had an 03 LS 430 before this and it did the same thing. To remove the sides, all you need is a trim remover tool. The Service Manual states that the clips are one time use. I was careful removing mine and none of them broke. I removed and replaced the original piece 4 or 5 times with no problems. Once I removed them, I peeled off all of the paint. Underneath it is chrome. I just left it like that. There was no way I was paying 500 a side for the molding and another 100 for clips....

I just examined my trim, and I see it's starting to peel.

Time to bust out the super glue before it gets worse

This is what has happened to both my drip moldings on my 07 GS and I'm taking measures to get them back to normal. Hopefully the body shop does a great job and that this doesn't occur again.
The first picture shows how much the paint has peeled from the roof molding. The folded in part is actually the way it should be, but as you see, most of it has come undone. The second picture shows what wind and hand washing will do. POS paint!

post a picture of the mouldings when they're finished.

On older lexus models, they were painted.
