But to say they didn't even know about it, well that's just lazy. Preliminary notices went out months ago, we have to acknowledge them in order to log onto Lexus.
I work for Subaru, and once a recall is posted we all know. Its posted on our internal site.

Blah blah blah, it's how they were installed at the factory....BS BS BS.

Anyhow, since their appears be at least one knowledgeable Lexus tech on here I'll ask this question here too.

Why is the fix for the TSIB is to replace the actual cam gear and the recall is only to fix/replace the cam bolts?

Curious to see what ideas we have in regards to this; my '06 350 has experienced the cam rattle about 10 times since I've owned it in 4/1/11.

Thanks!
The Recall and TSIB are essentially identical, the only difference is the part used. Lexus updated the CAM GEARS due to the housing bolts backing out of the front of the gear. The rattle is perceived to be the cause of the backing out due to the violent nature. The CAM GEARS with the updated PIN and/or BOLTS already installed in it are what is being replaced.

maybe this will help people understand

Valve train closest to the cam broke too. Along with all three bolts backing out of the cam.

There isn't a camshaft seal because it is housed inside the timing cover and oil splashes all around in there, but yes the valve cover gaskets are replaced.

also note, as a benefit to those with higher mileage these are also being replaced along with the gears.

Nice pictures! Can even tell its a northern car by the rust on the valve cover guide pin.

Yes because the Crankshaft pulley is external, but it isn't replaced with this recall.

Default Made appt

Thanks for the posting. I called my Lexus dealer. They said they are only allowed to do a certain number per day. I made an appt for Thursday. Dropping the car off Wednesday night.

Just got off the phone with Longo Lexus, they said they ran my VIn and said there's no current or up coming recall regarding the Cam Gears. She claims, your best option is to "wait" for the letter or an official announcement. She wasted a good 25 mins of my life i'll never get back.

Oh btw, the lady I spoke with said the gs300 2006 does not qualify for this recall, which again, is absurd and pissing me off. Lexus Corp here I come.......
