Default Loud thud downshifting 2nd and 1st

Any ideas?

Upshifting is fine, downshifting gives me a big thud. Bigger from 3rd-2nd smaller 2nd-1st (I think).

2006 GS430. 120k or so miles.

Stealership replaced solenoid #2, but now say I need a whole new transmission.

Maybe the transmission mount is bad?

Dealer is saying there was a lot of debris in the transmission fluid and there might be a stuck solenoid, but they want to replace it.

cost is about 5k. Thoughts?

See if they can do a transmission flush, where they pump in cleaner solutions like the BG.

I forgot the transmission code.... You can always try for a USED transmission on ebay or something.... They're not very worthy transmissions IMO.... the 6-sp isn't made to handle that much TQ/abuse. I landed upon this reasoning during my research for power mods.

So. Now it's been over 3 weeks with the car at the dealership. They replaced the transmission... and it's not resolved.

This has got me stumped (I guess the service people too).

Wow that sucks! Are they charging you for the new transmission and all the parts? If so I would rip them a new hole

I would examine the rear transmission mount, maybe also the rear diff check to see if its out of play

Can you get a video of it?

so they updated me saying they still have trouble with an entirely new transmission.

i have a loaner so I'm not really complaining about the time its taking. but what happens in the situation where they cannot fix my car?

cars still with the dealer. no video. but i find it really strange that a new transmission wouldn't have fixed the problem - since it was really just limited to those two gears.

I would put it on a dyno or find some kind of resistance and see where the thud is coming from. Or maybe if you have a gopro camera to mount it near the rear of the transmission.

Got a 430 not a 300, I was supposed to have the reliable transmission hah.

So the details of it was that it only occurred from 3-2 and 2-1 downshift only. Up was fine. They replaced solenoids and then went on for the full transmission ($4.5k). Now they still have issues.

I called Lexus NA/Corporate, they offered to cover parts of the transmission (~3500), however this was before they realized that didnt work.

I'm kind of beyond a lemon/buyback, though I think I will try to negotiate some kind of deal at this point.

They gave me a pretty nice loaded 2013 RX loaner, may just keep it.

This is all due to the fact of misdiagnoses in the tech or lack of experience in finding the actual fault.

Your mechanic is a parts slapper, throwing your time and money in hopes of curing the issue.

Hopefully they've checked your driveshaft and axles too. As well as the trans/diff mounts. What a terrible misdiagnosis.
