Default Looking to buy 06/07 Lexus GS?

New to this, what's up club lexus, I was looking to buy a 2006 or 07 lexus gs300 like asap, is there anything I should know about this car, anything negative mechanically or electrically. Don't want to buy a car I have zero intelligence and knowledge about. Help me out! I'd appreciate any insights you guys have about this car.

Stay away from 2006 GS300's as they have carbon buildup issues, the lexus dealer will rebuild the entire engine for free if you find a super good deal on one.

Stick to 07-up GS350's 2wd if you plan on lowering the vehicle

Really? What exactly is carbon build up, and how does this happen?

06's have direct injection meaning the injectors are past the valves. This design helps give you better mpg. The down side over time because the injectors are attached closer to the pistons and after the valves. The valves buildup carbon deposits that overtime will kill your cars performance, youll puff smoke, lose oil etc.

07-up GS350's The injectors wet the valves so no issues with carbon buildup.

Also, if you're planning on getting one with nav, the nav for the 06 is still the older generation.... its garbage compared to the newer one..

BTW, the GS350 still has direct injection. The engine that goes in the GS350 is a 2GR-FSE. The S between the F and E means the engine is direct injected...

On another note, in the 06-07 range, you can pick up a 430 also.....those are damn nice cars IMO

I agree stay away from the 06' 300 go for the 07' 350 worth more bang for your buck. The 07' has newer nav and more hp as well a much better car The 06' was very underpowered.

Its only underpowered if you have driven a GS350.

In all honesty, the GS300 is underpowered. I own one.
For 95% of the time, it won't matter. That 5% of the time, you get pissed that it doesn't have the power.

I really don't agree. I've had some really quick cars, modded Mustangs, Z28s and a Corvette and I've never once found my 2006 GS300 to lack power. 0-60 in the mid-6s is not bad at all for this type and size sedan. I drove several GS350s before finding my car, and would have bought one if I had found the 300 to be lacking at all. The most important things to me were condition/history and the Mark Levinson audio, and none of the 350s I found had the ML option. That combined with my 300 literally being in flawless condition made my decision for me. If mine ends up having the issue with carbon, I will get a free engine rebuild from Lexus, so win/win I figure. So far it runs perfectly.

I owned one as well but I felt it was always underpowered. I can't say it was fast at all, it may be the fact that I was coming from a 04' GS 430 but I really hated the fact it was slower, the tech was dated a little. I won't say the engine was not a great engine, but when it comes to someone going to purchase I would recommend the GS 350 before I recommended the 300.

^ Yeah and I bet everyone that goes from a Camaro SS or Mustang GT to a V6 is a little disappointed, too. Not exactly a fair comparison.

Its not a sports car... its a luxury touring sedan.

The GS300 has enough steam to move, but not to lead.
