Question Max width tires on 17" stock rims???

Ok, I'll admit I'm NOT into the large wheel/thin tire bit, and not just because of my age, but for serious technical reasons - harsh ride and road noise being two of them. Different strokes for different folks.

So I'm sticking with the nice stock rims on my wife's '09 GS350 AWD.

I've looked for this issue on tire & wheel threads but not found the answer:

If I'm sticking with the stock 17" rims, how wide a tire can I go with? 225's are on car now, next set (Michelin's only) will be at least 235's - can I get 245's on these rims?

TIA.

Gator, not sure on the tire size question there are probable others here that know more. Just wanted to suggest you look into the Conti ExtremeContact DW or DWS. I have has these for 20+k miles and really like them. Price point is also much better than the Michelins.

Thanks PAPete......I'll check them out. Have to check their wear rating....as this is my wife's car, it will not be pushed like my Cayman, and I'll be driving it primarily on trips......

I've got 245's on my 08 AWD. I haven't really noticed a difference. I got Yokohama's only because the DWS were on back-order. My wife has the DWS on her Acura and I have been really impressed with the tires.

Did you notice more road noise from the 45's over the 50's? Is the difference noticeable?

Thanks,

GN

I haven't really noticed a difference. However, in full disclosure, I went from the stock Dunlop RunFlats to some Yokohama YK580's in the 245 version Some would say the RunFlat tires are loud, ride terrible and generally suck. I'm not sure I would get the Yokohama's again but that is probably a conversation for a different thread. If I could have gotten any tire I wanted, I would have gone with Conti DWS
