Question 2006 GS300 Ballast question

I came home from business travel to find that the Stealership wants to charge big money to replace the ballast on the right front headlight...bulbs are new so that is not the issue this time.

this has to be something I can do myself...does anyone know what the replacement part number is and where I can find a good deal on one?

Search on ebay for D4S ballast. It should be around $50 - $70

I did an OEM ballast swap on my buddy's IS300 years ago. Its very doable as a DIY, but was a bit more difficult vs. an aftermarket ballast install. I say this cuz Lexus likes to attach the ballast under the headlight unit...and run the wires to hide them as much as possible...so it took some extra time.

Good luck though...just make sure you get the exact part number to swap out.

Im sure there are tons of used ballasts on ebay

Did you test the power going to the ballast to make sure thats the issue?

Default Swapped out the Ballast...Still doesn't work!

Swapping out the ballast is a fairly painful job..once I installed the replacement ballast, It still did not help my light issue.

The light still comes on initially, but then turns off....I have installed a new light and ballast... Any Ideas?

swap the bulbs to the opposite side and see if the problem stays at the same headlight or moves to the other

So every single time you start the car the bulb turn on? Your best bet is to grab a volt meter to the headlight plug for the ballast. Start the car and see if the voltage drops when the headlights turn off. You may have some other issue going.

What do the headlights do when you use a different setting on the control stalk? Like the auto headlight setting?

I've tried the Auto setting and Manual settings with the same results. Looks like the BCM may be bad.
