Default What's the risk of not replacing Plugs?.......

I've got 75K on my 07 GS350. --- I have not replaced the plugs yet, but noticed that the manual calls for a 60K replace. The Car runs pretty much the same as when it was new. I was surprised at the $400 price tag for replacing plugs. I plan to get rid of the car in another 15K miles.

What would be an indication that the plugs were indeed starting to fail?

I put 100,000 on my factory ones. When I changed them out, they looked as they only had several thousands. But everyone cars are different.

That was my experience with my 1999 GS300 as well.......I may not need to spend the $400.

Thanks...

If you're only keeping your car another 15k, dont worry about. You wont notice. I did mine at 80k, i noticed a small difference. I plan to keep my car to 250k. 400 seems right at lexus dealer, 3 hours labor plus plugs. Like everything else, i did the plugs myself as it is not hard.

Don't expect your buyer or whomever you trade it in with, to pay you top dollar when a simple basic plug change that can be done by anyone proficient, hasn't been completed.
It'll only make them wonder what else you've put off doing or scrimped on.
Showing the car has been looked after on schedule, and all servicing done, etc will go a long way to making the car easier to sell, and at a price (as long as you're realistic) nearer to your asking.
Just because it's a Lexus, doesn't mean you can be complacent or cavalier about servicing/maintenance.

I kind of agree I got my spark plugs changed and they looked like they needed to be changed, I took them to a friends shop but I'm sure you can find a trustworthy shop that you wont be ripped off. I was also quoted but was quoted $650 my friend charged me $90 he said it was an easy job took him an hour to change all 6.

Your car should be fine but if you see any signs of misfires it'll probably be the plugs.

Took me 2 hrs and glad I did it myself, wasn't so hard just time consuming.
Do it yourself and save some $$$.

I too did it myself after being quoted 535 from the dealership for cabin filter and plugs.

Took just over an hour and the cost of the plugs (80 bucks or so) The left bank (driver side) is the tricky one due to the intake covering one of the bolts (think thats #2) to the coil and then the one closest to the firewall (if correct on #2 would be #6) being covered by the wiring harness. Thought it was a bit crazy for them to charge for 3hrs but w/e.

btw, don't quote me on the cylinder numbers, I always forget if the driver's side is even or odd.

Or as mentioned earlier if you're not getting poor gas mileage and plan on trading it in soon, don't bother.

A technician at the dealer told me the plugs didn't need changing until 120K miles.

Truth. 60k mile interval on plugs per the service manual (at least what my GS300 manual says).

I know what the book says but that's what the guy said,. The caveat being a lack of performance requiring a sooner change.
