Ya mystery solved... But I wonder, we know that no 07's have this and we can see that all 09's have it... I wonder... anyone else with an 08 with this button?
^ Boron I think only the AC is point to the windshield.
AC stands for "air conditioner" - the air points to wherever you direct it to via the buttons on the Climate screen, and the physical button next to the rear window heater element and door mirrors.
IThe engine (because hybrid) may not come up to temperature fast enough under certain cold weather, low speed conditions. The fact that the 08+ had this is likely in response to customer complaints.
Or just because the 08+ is racecar.
All cars are continually developed, and given the '08 model received the facelift, it's no surprise one or two other additions were added because the technology had matured or internal tests were complete and showed it was ready for rolling out.
Part of it may've been from some feedback from customers or something the engineers were already aware of and figuring out how to implement a solution that didn't involve the use of wire over the whole screen like Ford did (still do?) - which may be patented or available to Ford on an exclusive deal.
I'd say the current 4GS is now being looked after by a small team to refine for its mid-life facelift, and the main team involved with it, now beginning to develop the 5GS test mule, with various technologies they aim/hope to bestow it with.
