Default Creaking F Sport Front Brakes

Hi Everyone,

This is directed to others who have added F Sport brakes to their GS...I am now on my 2nd set of front rotors with each set lasting about 15,000 to 20,000 miles. The front rotors develop a ticking noise followed by a creaking noise when I fully depress the brake...no noise while coasting or the brake pedal half depressed, just a the bottom of the brake pedal. The creaking will start to appear about 10,000 miles and get progressively worse until at 20,000 it sounds like an old Chevy.

My dealer replaced the first set, wants me to pay for the pads with the 2nd set and tells me this is normal for high performance BBK set ups like StopTech and Brembo. I certainly haven't seen this on my Corvette and I track that car. I just don't think it is normal for rotors to go bad before the pads! I just drive highway miles, no track time.

Has anybody else with F Sport brakes seen a similar problem?

What pads are you using?
How is the rotor being diagnosed as the culprit?
Anyone on the IS section with them fitted running into the same issue?
Not a cause, but when was the fluid last changed?

I'd be inclined to swap in plain discs and see if they behave the same.
If no-one else is having the same issue, but the plain discs fixes yours, I'm not sure what you can extrapolate from that other than the discs you received have been poorer quality or a part of a batch not quite up to expected standard.
If the plain discs don't change anything, then your issue is elsewhere - but your description of ticking and creaking doesn't give me the impression it's disc related to start with.

That all said, I would seriously urge you to switch to plain discs, as doing no track days or technical mountain runs early on a Sunday morning means the benefits of drilled discs is completely wasted on you.
Plain discs with a good set of pads - job done.

Using whatever pads used for F Sport brakes. Apparently the 2 piece rotor is failing (rotor surface itself is fine, not warped, pads are fine). The 2 piece rotor is degrading somehow and thus causing a creaking noise when compressed. Dealer is trying to tell me this is 'normal' for BBK 2 piece rotors after 20,000 to 25,000 miles. A call to StopTech (the maker of F Sport brakes) informs me that this is not true unless I was tracking the car. I am caught here because Lexus is essentially saying this is 'normal' wear and I am responsible.

Good idea about maybe posting something on the IS350 forum.

Improper lug torque values can cause that. I bet the dealer has torqued the living crap out of them and it warps the hat. I've seen it happen before.

A properly calibrated torque wrench is a GREAT risk management device!

The only thing that would cause a rotor to fail is aggressive pads or tracking. I have 6 piston Brembo's on my Nsx and have been through a few pads and im on the same rotors. My Willwoods on my S2000 held up to about 50k of use with regular AutoX events. Something is not right for sure

I beginning to believe that this is a dealer problem also.

False. Those are not the only things.

Improper installation is a HUGE "thing". There are many other factors, but the hat should last way longer than 20k.
