Hi All,

I recently acquired my Lexus GS 430. Before I had a great reliable IS250, but what an upgrade this is! My GS430 was in good hands before, but still there is one thing I hope somebody can help me with. My mirrors are at night automatically dimmings, that is the inside mirror and the right mirror, the left mirror isn't dimming.

I don't think it is a fuse since the mirror heating and adjusting its position is working well.
Did anyone come across this before? is it easy to open the mirror and check cables/ connectors and what would be the best to do? buy a new mirror online or just have it fixed for a premium price at the lexus dealer.

I am quite handy, so if its not too difficult I can do myself, on the other hand I don't want to buy wrong parts and making more costs then necessary

It is definitely doable, if you search the threads (I don't have the time to look right now, it's test season once again ). You will find the step-by-step guide on dismantling the mirrors to add 07+ LED markers for our 06's (and I believe 07) GS'.

Ok, so today I decided to follow up on this. I found the guide regarding the mirrors here:

I found what the guy calls the hard part really easy. In the guide the mirror is removed while the entire unit is off the car. Obviously I didn't remove the entire unit from the car. Instead of using a hard plastic thingy to ply the mirror loose from the bottom of the mirror I used my hands and started to grab beneath the mirror, without too much force it said click it said and it was off.

On the back of the mirror you find two connectors, a black one and a white one. the black connector goes where it says B and the white one goes where it says W.

However with my car, somebody must have taken it off and reversed the wires, causing my mirror not to work. that was an easy fix! putting it back together requires somewhat more caution, don't apply too much pressure on the glass.

Hope this is helpful for other people.

Awesome hansaplast! I'm glad everything worked out for you.... And that's silly that the previous owner/dealer put the wires on backwards.... shame shame!

It must have been the owner. The people at the dealer know their stuff pretty well. They gave me actually the tip to look around for a third gen GS. The dealer sells them off to local "no-brand" dealers.
by the way, my GS430 is from June 2005, I guess the third gen GS arrived earlier in Europe than in the US.

It definitely is, you guys got the gs430 3rd gen from 05-07 I believe.... I was just speaking with someone about that the other day.... You lucky dogs you, we got OUR 3rd gens in 2006 (USA).

That's great the dealer knows their stuff! In the US, so far it's been a hit and miss with A LOT of dealerships. I'm thankful mine's is a lot more competent than others.

Well we're getting a little bit off-topic, but the reason that I went for Lexus again (I used to have a 2006 IS250 with manual gearbox) was the great service here in the Netherlands. The red carpet treatment (=they pick up your car at any location, give you a loaner and return it later on at any other location). Saves me a lot of time and doesn't cost a thing, in the morning they would pick my car up at home, I drive into work with the loan-lexus, and in the afternoon we swap again at my office.
but besides, their cars are great too
