Default New MPG Record for my 06 GS430

I wrote a thread recently on MPG vs. gas companies. This is a follow-up. Yesterday I went to my favorite Shell station and got my usual 91 octane gas. Then I went on the freeway for my 50 mile Wednesday commute from Orange County to Los Angeles. Traveling at a steady 70 MPH (2000 RPM) I noticed my MPG going up as I continued down the freeway. When I got off I stopped and took a picture of my MPG (see attachment). It was a 29 MPG!!! This is a new record for me. I didn't think it was possible to get 29 MPG in a GS430 (unless you were going downhill all the way). Normally I have been getting between 26 - 27 MPG at 80 MPH. I'm at a loss to explain why so high. Coming home I only averaged 25.6 MPH.

Ah...the joys of discovering that driving 10mph slower results in less fuel being used!
You'd better not try driving at 60, I don't think you'd be able to contain yourself.
You'd probably strip naked and run round the car hugging and kissing it.

One presumes the "coming home" mpg was much later when the air temp was cooler, or were you not exercising restraint with the right foot?

Sweet. Its just so boring to go slow. I get so. So sleepy. We have 75mph speed limit here in Texas so I do 84 mph. Good job

That's really great for the 430 considering its V8. My record on my GS450h is 73.5mpg or 3.2L/100km. I was going at around 30km/h and it only lasted about 1km haha, I forgot to take a picture but I'll if I ever get that again!

^ your car were being towed? cause that's the only way you can get above 30mpg.

Check how high each the departing location and destination are above sea level. If where you're commuting to is 500 feet lower than your house, you're obviously going to get slightly better mileage going there. I live in a mountainous area and I drive 65 miles to get to the ocean which is approximately a 600 foot drop in altitude which can definitely impact mileage. I have yet to get the same mileage coming home as I do leaving to the ocean and I drive the same route every week. Just a thought.
